Help with Norton security 2005

    I just purchased Norton security 2005. Half way through the installation, my PC restarted and the installation wasn't completed. I've tried installing it again, but it doesn't do anything...I think this is because there are some norton files already installed. I've tried add remove programs to remove the symantec file but to no avail. Is there any way to completely remove whatever files have been installed and then re-instal from scratch. It's a brand new product and has never been used so is a bit annoying lol.

    You might want to try and find a solution from their web site. Just enter the product and do a search on possible solutions.

    If you run windows XP try to restore to a point before you installed the program and retry.

    jet11 is right on, they have a good support online.

    If you are running xp 2nd edition there is a problem like you describe and they have a fix for it on their site.

    Norton, as well as McAfee, are overpriced bloatware.

    You are paying for what you could get free online. And that is free, as in legal free, not P2P free.

    AVG and Avast are both great anti-virus programs, and both are free. ZoneAlarm puts out a free version of their firewall, and there are others as well. Firefow has a pop-up blocker built in, and there are more free pop-up blockers than I can count. As for malware, you have AdAware, Spybot, MS AntiSpyware, and hosts of others.

    Plus there are free online scans to double-check your protection (Trendmicro's Housecall comes to mind, as well as Panda's).

    I am not saying Norton is not good. It is good. But know that it, as well as McAfee and Microsoft, are in the crosshairs of those who seek to invade your computer.
