What formats can Pages save to? I have been thinking about picking it up because I like some of the publishing features it has. Can pages files be viewed for instance in MS Word?

I have Office for Mac (which by the way seems better to me than Office for Windows at least Office 2000) but I am open to trying something a bit different.

Files can be exported as pdf, word, html, rtf, and plain text.

Pages works pretty good, except I was so used to Office at work and when I had my pc it took some adjusting...just didn't want to spend all the bucks on Office again.

    I love Pages.
It blowes away Word for publishing.

It is nothing like a "real" program like Quark but for the target audience (normal Joes) it is great.

Also, if you get it now you get the new Numbers spreadsheet which I really like.
They just added that in the 08 release.

There is a 30 trial of it on the apple site.

Since I am too tired to go there tonight, I will guess the address to be apple.com/iwork

Pages is good. But you may want to look at this too.

    http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/download.php

Its an open source office. It only runs well on a machine that has a good amount of RAM.

Its free. If you do not like it...trash it. But if you like it, give them a few bucks. I put it on all reporters machines and they love it better the MS Office

I like Neo Office. I use it on my PC and for a while on my Mac.
Clarification, I use OpenOffice on the PC but they are the same program, just different ports.

It compares favorably to MS Office but I just got the new iWork 08 and love it.
I don't think I would go back to NeoOffice.

But I think that they serve different types of users.
NeoOffice is probably better for the core market of MS Office but for home and small business I thnk iword is great.

But hey, it is free so try it out.
And it has programs that iWork doesn't.

I didnt notice this at first.
    Yes and no.
Word can't open .pages fils but Pages can export to Word.
It doesn't bother me to occasionally export but it may to some.
