Well, I was raised as such, and I never switched denominations; but I haven't been to church in a few years.

I am not a mod or an administrator so what I am about to say is MY understanding of the rules. The actual BB rules may differ from MY understanding.


Since you are not currently attending a Baptist church I would think you would not be allowed to post in the Baptist only forums.

You should click on the link at the bottom of the page for posting rules it will explain what is allowed and what is not.

As far as links in posts go they are OK as long as the link to a site that does not violate the posting rules.

I'm in my 3rd year of University classes; but I'm taking a separate second class for kanji, this semester.

Is Japanese as able to express "everything" as English seems to be able to?
Like crusts of the earth, physics, and other things. Do they just stick with loan-words?
i know that the culture there is different in the sense that it's not polite to talk about things that all present can't understand, so I don't know how many times you've talked physics while over there; but it'd be nice to know that it's as encompassing a language as any other.

Happy to talk to you! :wavey: You do need God's grace for your kanji class, don't you!

Materialism is the ruling philosophy here. Right now I'm teaching the Bible to a former company president (has hepatitis C), who really latched onto a throwaway line of mine that "religion isn't money!"

Japanese is very sophisticated, actually. You can talk about anything you want to, including physics, etc. Some fields such as medicine do use lots of loan words, since the cutting edge stuff is still done in the US. I recently sat in Starbucks listening to a couple of nurse trainees work on their English technical terms, then had a nice talk with them.

Usually there are kanji equivalents to the loan words, including in physics, but somehow the Japanese just prefer the loan words. They think English is cool, even in transliterated form! Doesn't mean they always get it right. There is a cafe near us with the English name "Hurl Cafe." :laugh:

Though I didn't get a chance to, most of my friends went to Japan this summer; some of them might still be there, actually.
Kanji isn't too hard, once I get on a roll with it. I'm up to about 1,000.

I'm glad that is as enveloping as you say it is; it'd be a bummer to become fluent, only to spend most of the time saying English words with katakana pronunciations...

Hey, doin' pretty good! You have a real future in Japanese if you think kanji is not too hard. Personally I love it, but am not as good as I should be. When I was in language school in Tokyo, they stuck me in a class full of Chinese students once. Talk about a linguistic roller coaster!
