Don't gang members generally fight amongst themselves over "turf"? And is not graffiti a form of marking that turf? If the military is moving gang members into cities/bases where they have no turf then they are setting up a potential war zone in which one side or both may have access to military technology. This could be very bad for that community.

 

And perhaps worse for the community they came from when they return with their new urban guerrilla training.

This can't be good.

 

The Armed Forces have had this problem for years.

 

Makes sense, since in the all-volunteer army, recruitment efforts are targeted at lower class neighborhoods. For the most part, kids of privilege are not the ones going to war.

 

That's not true, at all. A lot of our officers are tranfers from other colleges.

 

Officers, yes. Enlisted men, no.

 

The fact that colleges are fighting so hard to keep recruiters off their campuses seems to prove you wrong.

 

I have known many enlisted folks that have come from wealthy families however the majority seem to be from middle and lower classes.

I one who joined from a poor family and I thank God for the opportunity to rise above my lower income situation and serve my country. However, unfortunately, justice is not administered equally in the military.

Those deemed to be from ethnic minority backgrounds get free passes where others would be prosecuted. I also joined at a time when women were allowed into my career field for the first time and they were allowed free passes on many levels so that the experiment wouldn't fail.

 

The Navy is the second best thing that ever happened to me. I never could have paid for the education I recieved. If they targeted me because I was poor (and I was), then I thank them.

It appeared to me that MP was saying the Army targets poor people & sends them to die, I KNOW that's a poular opinion, and I hate that mentality. So if I'm wrong, I'm sorry.

Yeah I dont believe that either. They dont target the poor to send them off to die.

My neighbor that lives across the street from me is a big wig at the Dallas MEPS and from what he has been telling me (he would know) there hasn't been any problem at all recruiting folks. It did slow down abit when all the services quit accepting folks with GEDs and went straight diploma but the Army and the Navy opened the doors to GED folks again and fixed the problem.

 

This is just an urban myth that is bought into by almost everyone. The DoD released the nubmers (I can't find it right off hand), but here's an article that talks about it, and you can Google some more stuff.

BTW, recruiters tend to avoid my town, unless someone actively expresses an interest. They don't come to the high school at all. Why? Because there are so few kids that don't smoke dope and are so out of shape that it's a waste of time. The football team is about the only large group that does not, and many of them actively seek to join.
