Historical sites that you have visited recently

My younger daughter and I visited The Bennington Battle Monument in Bennington VT last July. We were on our way from NH to Buffalo NY and saw it as we were passing through Bennington. I had never heard of it. It was quite a large monument - over 300 feet tall. There were some bronze statues on the grounds. One of Capt. John Stark.

That ain't nothin', Saggy-----I visited the "War Against Northern Agression" battlefield in Vicksburg, MS---------the battle was still goin' on!!!!!!!! The last I heard is---the poor Yankees have us surrounded but that we're still holdin' Richmond!!!

Prague Old Town Square where many historical events have happened including the killing of 20-some Hussites churchmen/leaders by the Catholic Church. There are white croses in the sidewalk, one for each person killed.

Wife and I did go to Gettysburg for two weeks for eight years running. It was the most fascinating site in Pennsylvania.

Also, it was in Easton, Pennsylvania, your Nation's official papers were signed into being. A little office off the main street.

I finally visited the Alamo in my dad's hometown a few months ago. The 15 minute lecture they gave teaches you more than you could possibly learn in school. I stood on the spot where Davey Crockett died.

Gettysburg was a wonderful time, as well.

 

This past summer we visited the Castillo de San Marcos at St Augustine. Fascinating place from the first settlement of Spain in North America.

Central NY is a wonderful place for history. Fort Stanwix, in Rome, was an important part of the Revolution.

Hmmm.

First- there's my own church,(organized in 1782) and the 3rd oldest extant church "West of the Alleghenies" and with the main auditorium originally constructed in 1850, where I was only last evening.

Second, there was this place I recently visited where that everything that was not already petrified was really petrifying, and I do mean very scary!

Lotta' history there, too. :thumbsup:

After almost two weeks with no electric power, that was my own refrigerat...!

I recently was called for jury duty, at the County Courthouse here in our county.

The courthouse was originally built in the very early 1800's and was used as a staging point during the Civil War.

(We had a 3 stage civil war battle here in our county)
