I'll start the advent music the last week in November.

I won't pull out the Christmas music until the week of...and maybe not until the 24th. At least the sacred. I have a hard time singing "Yea, Lord, we greet Thee" when it's not anywhere close to the happy morning. I could listen to Andy Williams "Holiday Season/Happy Holidays" a hundred times and not get tired of it.

You have a very interesting Liturgical style to your worship dont you.I find that very refreshing & time honored albeit rare these days. I grew up raised by Roman Catholics -both old school & very reverent. Every day during the season we went to mass & heard the gospel story unfold also using the advent wreath candles. We really would not put up much decoration because we were poor & the trimming of the house was left till the 24th when the whole family gathered to both cook & decorate (that was a joyful occasion) then the evening meal .... no meat but with the traditional dishes & yes fish & eel.

Then we would all walk to Church for midnight mass. In those days each ethnic group had there own church & you'd pick the one you most enjoyed. I liked going to the Slovak church because it had that old world East European tradition but at times would follow my grandmother to the Italian Latin rite mass. say what you want, those old Catholic services were reverent.

Then the family would meet again for the feast of the nativity on Jan 7th I believe for more family time & meals. Christmas proper began on the 24th & ended on Nativity.

These Internet radio stations are playing traditional Christmas music:

    Abiding Radio

    FBC Radio (Foundations Bible College)

For people who like this sort of thing, this would be just the sort of thing they'd like.

Thanks for your thoughts. I do believe very seriously that we shouldn't rush the season. We don't do Easter music weeks in advance, so why Christmas.

My church will get the opportunity to sing a bunch of carols on Christmas eve, but I'm saving the final stanza of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" (yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning) until Christmas day services.

    Until then, it's Advent.

A pastor is preaching through (for example) Paul's letter to the Philippians. One week, he gets to chapter 3, where verse 10 says:

that I may know Him (Christ), and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.
How restricting to say to such a pastor, "You cannot have any hymns about the resurrection - it's the middle of September. You must wait until Easter!"

How even more restricting to say to the pastor, "What do you think you are doing, preaching about Christ's death and resurrection in September?"

Can you give some biblical support for only singing about the Saviour's birth in December, or His resurrection at Easter?

I'll pass. I can't explain it, but I despise most Christmas music. I guess it is because I have heard them all, all of my life, over and over and over. Each year they sem to start up with the same exact songs earlier and earlier. What really stinks is our local Moody station switches over to a 24/7 format of Christmas music for the week of Christmas, completely dropping their regular programming for the week.

    I guess I'm just a Grinch.
