The report notes that in the U.S., home schooling families spend less than $4,000 per year on home schooling while public schooling in the U.S. costs about $9,600 per child.

Parents like me who pay for private Christian schools still pay taxes for everyone else. I know it's a kick in the shorts, but that's how it is. One of the things I like about Ron Paul is his promise to throw the D.O.E. into the Chesapeake Bay.

There are some parents that shouldn't homeschool.

There are many that can do so well.

Others choose other routes.

EVERYONE pays taxes to fund government schools! It doesn't matter if you have kids or not! :laugh: :laugh:

I have a problem with the less than $4000 on homeschooling though. I've paid less than $1000 dollars so far this year on homeschooling. That includes church school tuition and cirriculum. Homeschooling is by far less expensive than any other educational system available to us.

Church school tuition was $158 including fees for SAT's in the spring (optional expense, btw). Alpha Omega publishes a computer based cirriculum called SOS. Best price on that is $263. Bought an additional Logic cirriculum(don't know the price here but it and the SOS came to $295 together) and a different spelling program (Sequential Spelling by AVKO, $17 something including shipping). Then there are field trips that so far have come to another $50. Those are optional also. Added together it all comes to: $520

Closest private school tuition is around $1800 a year and wouldn't have helped our situation (Chris misses an extrordinary amount of days due to migraines).

I think you'll find that homeschool parents already know what is stated in this study. They just haven't been believed. I know, I was once a non-believer myself.

I have no idea how you came to such a conclusion.

We pay $7700 in school taxes per year. I also homeschool my younger children and spent $800 on curriculum this year (using Bob Jones and ABeka). I've seen these results of studies before - by an organization that does homeschool studies.

I have to laugh at people asking me "Are you a teacher?" and knowing the results of those studies. According to them, I'm BETTER than a teacher! I see myself not better but in a better circumstance with schooling only 2 children full time rather than the 20-30 of an elementary school and the 100 that a high school teacher may teach in a day.

I thank God that we have the freedom and ability to teach our children at home. In countries like Germany, they'll take your children away from you if you do it.
