The good news is they finally pulled Brad Lidge out of the closer role.

The bad news is the man who is replacing him has a 0-1 record with a 9.00 ERA.

Being a Braves fan, when I heard about that it tickled me pink.

Big ol' Brad throws probably the best stuff in the NL and he can't get anyone out. He hasn't been the same since he hung that slider to Puhols in the NLCS a few years ago. Oh, man! I don't think the park was ever so quiet even when it was completely empty. Rumor has it the ball has landed by now, though it hasn't yet been proven.

A guy I worked with went to that game and said people were so stunned and quiet that you could actually hear Puhols' footsteps as he rounded the bases. Everyone on the team, all the fans were saying "Brad will bounce back, he's our closer, we believe in him", then he goes 0-2 in the Series against Chicago, ends up with an ERA well over 5 in 2006, and now he's just a set-up guy.

I think they'll keep him around for a while just because his stuff is so great, but I don't really think he'll ever be as good as he once was. If he keeps his current behavior up though, he might be wearing a different uniform soon.

    It's the Mitch Williams Syndrome.

    Soli Deo Gloria,
    Dustin

Lidge has an ERA this season of 16!!!

He really wouldn't be bad if he could keep some of the hits in the park. It seems like everything he gives up sails over the outfield wall.

Bro. Reed--We (the Rangers) have two closers up here in Arlington (Gagne and Otsuka). Sadly their main duty is to clean up the mess our starting pitchers create. So if you have an extra starting pitcher we might be able to make a deal. (And no, please do not send us Lidge. If he's having trouble keeping the ball in the park in humid Houston, he'll never keep it in the park in hot, dry Arlington.)

You're thinking of our other bad team, the Texans.

Maybe I spoke too soon about the Stros. They're 6-6 now.

    7-6 now!

The bats are coming around and so is the pitching.

Maybe this will be THE year for the 'stros.
