Question implies both cannot be done at once. Question also implies that helping the poor and helpless will necessarily increase the national debt. There are ways to help the poor that does not involve government.

If one is staying at home, not working, complaining about everything and waiting on a check from the government, one is a Democrat. I do stay at home. I can't even get a haircut or a carwash. The only thing to do is go to the grocery store, which is out of disinfectant, the only thing that I really need except perhaps isopropyl alcohol.
