How long is the Revelation? Or, how long did the revelation take? Seems like there is a point in the book of the Revelation that John starts to keep track of time for certain events. Below is a quick list that I pulled together. It starts off with a half hour of silence (8:1), which I can understand (the vision may be so many hours long and out of that time there is a ½ hour of silence), but days? months? one thousand years?

Rev 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

Rev 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment [was] as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

Rev 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power [was] to hurt men five months.

Rev 9:15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Rev 11:3 And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Rev 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty [and] two months.

Rev 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days.

Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months.

Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and [I saw] the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Rev 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

    How long is The Revelation?

Since we assume John received the Revelation around 95 or 96 A.D., he was told to write what he had (already) seen (I believe in the vision, recorded in chapter one), the things which are (which would include what was existing at that time, whatever that may include, but with the things which shall be after these things, would include the time until now, which would be some 1911 years 'til now, and we have no real clue how much longer, the time frame given from chapter four on which would seem to include, when compared with other Scriptures a 7 year period (for the half is said, or at least implied to be 42 months), a 1000 year rule, and then would appear to have some time associated with a rebelliion of Satan, and then appear to move into eternity, in the future in the new Jerusalem, etc.

So the dating of the time can be, IMO, safely assumed to be at least 2918 years already declared, assuming, and I do, that one takes the figures literally (1911 + 7 + 1000 = 2918), and we have no idea how much longer, before we move into 'eternity' ("forever", whatever that may mean).

    Hope that helps.

:laugh:I knew that someone was going to say this.
I wonder if John actually lived through every thing as he saw it. Like God pressed the skip button on the remote of time. in 4:1 - press the skip button and skipped til the end of the church age, then fastfowarded through til the end of the milleneum...

    just a thought

    TIME & ETERNITY

Time is a finite sub-set of the infinite set: eternity.
So the old uneducated/redneck preacher that talks
about when time ends and eternity begins is 'full of it'.
Eternity by nature has no beginning and no end. God
is the creator of Eternity and exists outside Eternity as
    well inside Eternity.

BTW, it is worse than I describe, a common misunderstanding
of the King James Version (KJV) leads to the 'when time ends
    and eternity begins' doctrinal error.

Ad Time (eternity) H5703 - used once
    Aion Time (age) G165
    Aionios Time (eternal) G166
    Chronos Time (time) G5550
Eis aion aion Time (forever and ever) G1519, G165, G165
    Kairos Time (time ) G2540
    Hemera Time (day) G2250
    Hora Time (hour) G2610

    Isa 57:15 (KJV1611 Edition):
For thus saith the High and loftie One that inhabiteth eternitie,
whose Name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place:
with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit,
to reuiue the spirit of the humble,
and to reuiue the heart of the contrite ones.

On 15 Aug 2006 I did a Google search on "time ends and eternity begins"
getting 44 'hits'. So this is a used (though non-biblical and
    non-sense) concept.

    --------------------------------
    Rev 10:6-7 (KJV1611 Edition):
And sware by him that liueth for euer and euer,
who created heauen, and the things that therein are,
and the earth, and the things that therein are,
and the sea, and the things which are therein,
that there should bee time no longer.
    7. But in the dayes of the voice of the seuenth Angel,
when he shall begin to sound, the mysterie of God
should be finished, as hee hath declared
    to his seruants the Prophets.

'that there should bee time no longer' refers to
    God's deadline having been met.
'that there should bee time no longer' does
not refer to the ceasing of time.

Indeed the phrase: "the mysterie of God
should be finished" show the meaning of:
'that there should bee time no longer' refers to
    God's deadline having been met.

The clocks will keep on ticking as by the power of God
    Almighty, Christ ushers in the
    Earthly Millinnial Messanic Kingdom.

A modern version is more clear:

Revelation 10:6-7 (HCSB - Christian Standard
    Bible /Holman, 2003/ ):
He swore an oath by the One who lives forever and ever,
who created heaven and what is in it,
the earth and what is in it, and the sea
    and what is in it:
"There will no longer be an interval of time,
7 but in the days of the sound of the seventh angel,
when he will blow his trumpet,
then God's hidden plan will be completed,
as He announced to His servants the prophets."
