How many sins to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?

    Seriously:

    1. Assuming we are sentenced to hell for our sins, how many sins, and what severity of sin(s) does it take to be sentenced to hell (lake of fire, or wherever) for eternity?

    2. If this is how it works, why do we receive never-ending punishment for sins we commited in a finite time frame?

    3. If this is NOT how it works, how does it work?

Please support your viewpoint with scripture.

Folks go to the lake of fire for eternity for not believing in the blood sacrifice of the lamb of God.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" - Ephesians 2:8

We do not receive never ending punishment for sins committed if we believe in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I'd encourage you to read that Tozer sermon as he addressed this matter quite nicely.

Well what I would like to know is if works some how "prove" we are saved how many works do we have to have before we have "proven" we are really and truly saved?

Or better yet just how many bad works can I do or how many times can I do a certain bad work in a row before I know that I really wasn't really and truly believing and I'm still bound for the lake of fire forever and ever and ever?

I don't guess you want my answer but "prove" it to who. You and the Lord are all that matter.

    The second question"
1 sin that will keep you from the Kingdom of God, like adultery will prove to me you didn't have it to start with. I don't believe in Christians trying to keep up with the world to see who can commit the most sins and the worst sins. If you are trying to outdo the world in the sin department, you really are not out of the world. IMO

That's a great question Brother Bob. I have no idea who we are supposed to "prove" we are saved to. I would agree with you that everlasting life is between two and only two and that is the person and God.

However we have a great number of people on this board that say we have to have works to somehow "prove" we are saved. And you even pretty much included yourself in that group with your second statement.

I thought salvation was between the individual and God?

Also how about telling one lie. Does that keep you from the kingdom of God and prove to you that a person didn't have it to start with Brother Bob?

You seem hung up on this topic, but this thread is not about proving you're saved. It's about the relationship, if any, between sins and the time spend paying for those sins (forever).

Not any more hung up than you trying to figure how many sins it takes to go to hell for 1000 years. I think it's more important to figure our your line since it's for all eternity :).

Go back to the twilight zone, will you? Who said anything about 1,000 years, except you? Who said anything about proving salvation except you? Can't you leave one thread without your ME infection?

How quickly you forget. It was you that in fact started the thread with this. Here's your quote.

No one did. That was my question. I apologize for adding to your thread. I should have just started my own.

Actually the coming seventh day is the over arching theme of Scripture, so no it's pretty hard to talk about any topic of Scripture and get into much detail without discussing the coming kingdom. But thanks for asking :).

And where in that quote do you see 1,000 Years? Nowhere except your under-the-influence-of-ME drunken brain. To the rest of us, eternity means eternity.

Like I said, go back to the twilight zone and take your heresy with you.

If I spoke of works after salvation it would be good works, not bad.

A lie, ask God or read scripture and it will tell you. There will be no liars in Heaven. Seems that pretty well seals it up.

Of course, what is a lie that God is talking about. It is not a change of mind, IMO. It is not, telling something false, that you heard and thought it was true.IMO

Lie, is to deliberatley tell a false to decieve someone while knowing it was false. If you do that, you are in trouble. People say, well I can't help telling a lie, but you can keep from blaspheming the Holy Ghost. Wonder why Christians can't keep from lying, adultery, killing, stealing, worshipping Idol Gods etc. I always wondered why do Christians do those things and can't help it?

Maybe you know why a Christian can't live a life that is Christlike?

    1. The sins of the redeemed have been taken care by the Substitute (Rom 8:1; 2 Cor 5:21).

    2. Those who end up in the lake of fire for all eterntiy are paying for their sins.

    3. The outpouring of God's wrath on sin forever and ever brings Him glory (Rom. 9;22, 23). I know this is a tough reality, but it's what the Scriptures say.

    4. Whatever God does brings him pleasure (Ps 103:19; 115:3).

Boy Brother Bob I think you might be awfully lonely :). One lie and you are in trouble . . . whew. I'll just leave it there.

I know EXACTLY why a saved person can't live a life that is Christ-like and that is because they are walking in the flesh instead of the Spirit!

So let me clarify . . . you don't believe a "saved" individual has "any" bad works after they are "saved?"

Am I reading your right on this one?

Well your question had to do with getting assigned to hell because of your sins. So while no you didn't have "1,000 years" in there that is the only thing that you can contextually be talking about because the unsaved go to the lake of fire because they didn't believe in the Substitutionary death and shed blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.

You might want to clarify what exactly your topic is regarding!

Of course we have some bad works, but not the kind of works most on here believe. Try as you may, I believe to be Christlike is to live a Christian life and that does not include the sins that shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

It makes me sick to my stomach for people to say Christians commit adultery, murder, steal, lie, rape 3 years olds, shall I go on.

Really? So at this point, you have no clue that I totally reject the doctrine of ME? You actually think I might be referring to it in my questions? And were you born today or yesterday?

Am I to understand you saying then, that the countless Baptists pastors and members who have fallen victim to adultery and such like, but repented and got back on the right track are not true Christians?

But what is the threshhold, if any, of sins that puts you in the lake of fire?

Personally, I believe we inherit the sin of Adam, and there is no particular sin that we commit which puts us in hell. But some people here have stated that we are born "innocent" and are sentenced to separation from God/hell only for the personal sins we commit once we are accountable.

According to their philosophy, what was the sin that put us over the edge? Was it even the first, littlest sin we ever commited, or did we have to commit a more heinous sin, or commit lots of little ones?

And if this is true (that we pay for our own sins only) then why do we spend eternity paying for a sin that may have occupied only a few seconds of our lifetime and may have offended no one but God?

    1. I find this teaching rather incredible.

    2. What stripe of Evangelicalism is this?

    3. So what is the effect and the extent of the Atonement of Christ if believers have to pay for their own sins? I can understand that unbelievers pay for their own sins, but why should believers have to pay for their own sins?

    4. None of this is Scriptural. It's all man-made. Not even my grandma would come up with those ideas.

It would be very hard for J.Jump or any of the others to keep the ME theology out of their debates...

Once one is infected with ME theology, it colors the way they see the world, and the scriptures...

It becomes the system of belief that is most important to them.

So, don't expect those with this belief to keep quiet...
No matter what you talk about, the ME beleif has infected the subject.
