    HOW TO LOSE A WAR

    By RALPH PETERS

    EXERPT

November 21, 2005 -- QUIT. It's that simple. There are plenty of more complex ways to lose a war, but none as reliable as just giving up.
Increasingly, quitting looks like the new American Way of War. No matter how great your team, you can't win the game if you walk off the field at half-time. That's precisely what the Democratic Party wants America to do in Iraq. Forget the fact that we've made remarkable progress under daunting conditions: The Dems are looking to throw the game just to embarrass the Bush administration.

The best policy is to not have started this war in the first place. We should have concentrated on Afghanistan and stayed out of Iraq in the first place.

    Too late.

25 million people now have a chance for freedom in the form of self determination.

We blow that chance for them if we leave too soon.

Another way is for some senators and congressmen to constantly harp (while engaged in a war and in the presence of the enemy and the entire world) that the sitting President is both incompetent and a liar.

I believe the liberal component of our government has some sort of death wish if they don't know that this strategy is going to blow up in their face.

The nation needs the check-and-balance of a two party system, IMO, they (liberals) are committing political hari-kari with this behavior.

They need to come forth with a positive plan, not an attack-the-president and a turn-tail-and-run approach.

Promote the liberal plan of getting other nations involved, getting the UN involved, negotiate negotiate negotiate with the enemy.

Not that I fully promote any or all of these liberal approaches but it's as if they said - "lets see what we can do and say to most effeciently destroy our credibility" and then went out and did it.

Before Rowe Vs Wade I was a Democrat. Politically speaking JF Kennedy is my all time hero (apart from his personal life).

Now I'm Independent and disappointed with this administration but I stil support my president as well as respect the office no matter who is sitting in the White House.

The nation is healthiest when we have a two party system with honest debating rather than this brawling.

    There, I'm done.

We could go even further back and say that if Clinton had taken the safety of Americans seriously we wouldn't have even been in Afghanistan.

It is partly Clinton's fault, yes.

It isn't a war. Wars are for killing enemies and stealing assets.

The first part is correct (and we have killed a lot of enemies), but the second part is incorrect. We have fought many wars for the purposes of liberating the oppressed, independence, retaliation for unprovoked acts of terror, and for the purposes of international security. We most certainly are fighting a war. You don't get to rewrite history and redefine what war is to match your anti-American rhetoric.

We could go even further back and say that if Reagan hadn't armed OBL in Afghanistan against the Russians, we wouldn't have this problem today.

Oh, wait, I forgot about the poppy crops that we have failed to eliminate over the past four years.....

How come? What did he accomplish that amounts to anything other than the space program.

billwald isn't speaking anti-American rhetoric. His post is much deeper than what it appears on the surface and I agree. If we were fighting a real war on terror, we would have protected our own borders as a matter of national security. The ultimate winner in Iraq is Iran. Iran put the bug in Iraq's ear and now Iraq wants a timetable for the US to get out. And it has nothing to do with who says what in American politics when it comes to the big picture.

His post is pure revisionist history hogwash and you agree with it. There is nothing deep about a shallow well of anti-American rhetoric which is based mostly on falsehood.

In his farewell address, Washington warned us against entanglements in foreign wars. Now we seem to consider it a virtue to seek out foreign entanglements.

That was a typical cogent statement from our Joseph. No chance of misinterpreting that sentence. [IMG]

    Bunyon asks:
He was my commander in chief when I was in the Air Force. He stood up to Kruschev and Castro. He lowered taxes, but most of all

    He died for his country.

Kennedy was a real leader who united this country like no one has since. Americans wanted to follow him. He made us feel like there is a better day coming. He didn't divide Americans into "us" versus "them."

You're right. I don't remember precisely when democrats began to divide us as a way to stay the majority party, but it wasn't during Kennedy's time.

He wouldn't be recognized as even being a democrat today. Probably a moderate Republican.
