How to remove the "Vista" virus

    Our church was recently given a laptop computer, which I must say has been a great gift. The only drawback was it came pre-installed with a malicious virus codenamed "Vista". I tolerated its existence as long as I could. Last night I downloaded Ubuntu, desktop edition, completely removed/eradicated the "Vista" virus, installed Ubuntu without a hitch and am now enjoying a stable and worry free operating system.

    Aww, now. Vista's not all bad, especially once you install the service packs. You have to remember that XP had a rocky start, too.

    But I do like the joke. ;)

    I've heard many people say they like Vista, though there's no question it had its problems. Unfortunately for Microsoft, I can only think of a couple of operating systems, Windows 95 and Windows 2000, that were pretty good right out of the gate. The rest of them had their problems from the time of rollout to release of the first SP. Personally, they'll take XP away from me when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

    My 3-year old lappy running Ubuntu Jaunty cold boots to desktop and network in about 35 seconds.

    While downloading the latest stable release of Ubuntu, I also downloaded LinuxMint and IP Cop. I have an older HP box and plan to load IP Cop and then use it as my internet gateway and printer gateway. We should be able to then send printfiles wirelessly from the laptops to the printer and provide getter security from the internet. This while be a new experience for me, so if anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate any advice.

    Linux Mint looks interesting, it is based on Ubuntu/Debian, I will probably load it on a dusty box at church and see how I like it.
