Recently we have had a lot of discussion on the nature of sin in the life of a believer. Now I would like to practically apply what we believe the scripture teaches to real life situations a christian counselor(whether it be a Pastor, Deacon, Teacher,ect...).

I realize these some of these things would be rare and may rarely happen, so in one sense they may not be as "practical" as we might think. Yet they do happen and our understanding of the scriptures will affect how we would counsel someone in these situations.

Here is the background of this hypothetical person. They have professed a belief on Christ and are active member of your church. They serve in teaching position in your church.

What if this person came to you and said:

CASE 1: I have been unfaithful to my wife and I have been having an affair with a woman at work.

CASE 2: I have been unfaithful to my wife and I had a one night stand with a person I met, there no ongoing releationship.

CASE 3: I have had a homosexual releationship with somone.

CASE 4: I have an addiction to pornography.

CASE 5: I have an addition to alchohal.

CASE 6: I have an addition to drugs(you fill in the blank).

    CASE 7: I have a gambling addiction.

CASE 8. I have falsely accused somone of doing something wrong and let them take the blame(slander).

CASE 9: I have a problem with greed, I am obssessed with how much money is in my bank account and have a hard to time giving.

CASE 10: I am physically or verbally abusive toward my spouse.

CASE 11: I am obsessed with (you fill in the blank, sports, tv, some hobby..) and what should I do with this obsession?

CASE 12: I have stolen(maybe from work, or family, or worse what if from the church?)

CASE 13: I struggle with depression and feel often like I want to commit suicide, I recently almost took my life...(This case I realize is different than the others, so please don' think I am saying its the same, but it still happens).

I think there are plenty of cases here to swing at, some would definitely be easier to counsel than others.

So how would you counsel this person? Would you remove them from serving in the church? How would you discipline this person(if there was a any discipline to be had).

Would you tell they were not saved and needed to be saved?(So obviously you would remove them from their position). Would you expel them from your church?

I look forward to your responses.

Actually this can become quite the obsession if you let it. You the know the Baptist Board is an obession if you are waking up at 3:00 in the morning to reply to someone because you were thinking about it before bed(a Pastor friend of mine had to stop going on a forum because it was taking too much of his time).

I suprised no one(except you Amy) has bit into this thread.

In all of the cases cited, the person must be truly repentent to remain in the church and I would suggest that he confess to the church for bringing reproach on the name of Christ and then get on with his life.
