My Way News - AIDS Comments Alarm Ryan White's Mother

I agree with Huckabee. AIDS patients should be isolated.
Just like the lepers were in the Bible.

Seriously Though - ''Super AIDS'' Appears In New York

With the new super AIDS virus we can't take any chances.

Yes, it's a worldwide pandemic now and obviously people can't control themselves and getting tested doesn't work because the doctors miss things sometimes. Isolating them is the only way to fight AIDS.

Yes, I agree. While we're at it I think we should lock up the bigots too.. I mean, the Bible doesn't teach us to be a bigot so let's lock them up!!

Of course, I do not mean what I just said, but it would work with your way of thinking. You must not know much about AIDs in order to say such a thing. Yes, it's a diease that needs to be checked, treated and one should do everything possible to avoid getting it, but to just lump these poor people in a group and isolate them somewhere is outragous for a Christian to believe in.

You are obviously too young to remember TB sanitariums. Or how immigrants were screened and isolated at Ellis Island.

There's so much wrong here I hardly know where to begin.

First, let's deal with your attempt to connect AIDS and Leprosy. AIDS is transmitted by "...unprotected sexual relations between partners, one of whom has HIV." See link here. For leprosy, we have this link, which states, "The most widely-held belief is that the disease is transmitted by contact between infected persons and healthy persons." AIDS and leprosy are transmitted by vastly different methods. It's even stated in the Wikipedia article that "... the forced quarantine or segregation of patients is unnecessary... " With this, since not even casual contact causes leprosy to spread, your attempt to connect AIDS and Leprosy fails miserably.

Since the health risk issue is non-existent, what's your basis for isolating them?

Is it? I'm sure you have some evidence to prove this. Please provide it.

I would guess that you're only going after the people who acquire AIDS through unprotected sexual relations. How about those who acquire it from infected blood transfusions? Should we isolate them as well?

I find an appalling lack of compassion in your posts on this subject.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, because the issue with transmitting TB is the same as with leprosy. TB isn't transmitted the same way as AIDS. If there is no health risk, I see no reason for isolating AIDS patients.

I speak as one who lives fourteen miles south of an epicenter of the pandemic.

Lady Eagle, AIDS is not TB or leprosy. It can not be spread by casual contact. If it were, I'd of contracted it a long time ago.

AIDS is not a "gay" disease. Though, many who suffer from it are homosexual. Most AIDS patients today aquire the disease through hetrosexual contact or through IV drug use. Remember, Ryan White acquired the disease through a blood transfussion.

AIDS is too widespread for isolation...

It wouldn't work. Abstinence would... to some degree.

I don't support the isolation of AIDS patients, in any way. I think it borders on hateful to say we should.

However, while it may not be a gay disaese anymore, but we cannot deny promicuous behavior of gays in the early '80s turned the disease into a plague.

Agree with Tiny Tim, AIDS is too widespread for isolation. The Pandora's box was opened too many years ago. If isolation would have been instituted back then, perhaps it would not be such a world wide problem as it is today. This is the price we pay for being politically correct. I have been in contact with lepers. One does not acquire leprosy from casual contact, either. One can acquire AIDS, VD, or a host of other diseases from casual contact as in "casual" sex. Perhaps we should isolate everyone who has casual sex. On another note, I do not always believe everything the CDC has to say about AIDS, which is where most of our "medical" information comes from regarding AIDS and casual contact. If you trust them, good for you.

Suggestion: If you are going to have an elective surgery, donate your own blood to your blood bank for use during your upcoming surgery. I've done that before and highly recommend it as tests for HIV/AIDS on donor blood are not foolproof.

A rather misleading statement. The aids virus can be spread by what is known as heterosexual contact but the truth is one of the partners have either had sexual contact with the same sex at one time or with someone else who has. there are many who engage in bisexual activity.

Because homosexuality is so wide spread and the risk with homosexual behavior is so widely ignored it is not surprising that the virus has made its way into the blood supply.

I'm glad to see the Evangelical community reaching out to both gays and those with AIDS with vibrant, relevant ministries. Praise God Huckabee's isolationism never happened. :jesus:

You may agree with it but it would badly damage Huckabee in the general election if he wins the GOP nomination.

I can agree with this as far as it goes. However, look at the places where AIDS is currently the strongest Africa and Asia.

==The reason lepers were isolated in Scripture times was because of the spreading infection. There is ZERO New Testament requirements for such behavior today. Mainly with the advent of advanced medication. Besides, AIDS is not nearly as easy to catch as Leprosy. AIDS, unlike Leprosy, cannot be transmitted through casual close contact.

Huckabee's remark, and your endorsement of his remark, is a sad statement about how uninformed many people in our society are. Unless you are involved in a high risk behavior, you have no reason to fear being around those people who are infected with HIV/AIDS.

==Again, unless you are involved in a high risk behavior there is very little to be concerned with. However you do need to be concerned with the latest outbreak of adenovirus. Adenovirus starts as a common cold and then worsens over a two to three day period. This virus can put people in the hospital on a breathing machine and, if it is not caught in time, can kill them (quickly). The real problem with adenovirus is that many, many people catch it. Most of those people will develop a cold or no symptoms at all. It is those who are infected with the rare form that are in serious danger. Medical experts are not sure why some get the mild form and others get the deadly form. This is the kind of thing you need to be concerned with, not AIDS.

They isolated them in the Old Testament and it worked. Maybe, that's why there isn't any new law in the New Testament. ;)

I agree with the truth. I don't conform unless God said it, as do you sometimes. ;)

They would have you believe it's not easy to contract, but there have been cases where AIDS was contracted through kissing. Also, just by contact with an open sore.

California Homosexual Organization Admits HIV/AIDS is "Gay Disease"

LOS ANGELES, California, October 4, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center has abandoned a long-held homosexual activist contention by declaring on billboards posted throughout Southern California that HIV/AIDS is a “gay disease.”
