Does anyone know if there was a successful purging of the people responsible for their well publicized error?

I've had a couple of reports that the culture has been corrected under John Wilkerson. Anyone else hearing positive reports?

Use the search bar here at BB. I had read the old threads here where they had some serious problems.

My Pastor was a student at Hyles Anderson decades ago. I'm in my 20s, and many of my friends at church have gone to Bible college there and come back. I'm not aware of any current grotesque errors.

FBC Hammond & Hyles-Anderson College facing RICO lawsuit for cover-up of sexual abuse

"[Joy] became concerned about David Hyles stalking her with repeated calls to talk and be with him. It alleges that when this was brought to Jack Hyles' attention, he responded that [she] 'wasn’t special' and his son 'did that with everyone'."

"She alleges officials of the church and Hyles-Anderson College put her at the mercy of David Hyles, son of the church’s charismatic leader, the late Jack Hyles."

"she was a high school sophomore when David Hyles first assaulted her"

"She said once her family accused David Hyles of sexual abuse....the church responded by giving her father a lucrative job at Hyles-Anderson college 'in exchange for his silence and agreement not to take the allegations to law enforcement'."

"The lawsuit also alleges the church then moved David Hyles to a church in Texas, where his father had previously been a pastor."

Back in the early 80's the Jack and Dave Hyles were "exposed" for the character, teaching, and administration that one can easily align with heretical.

Great damage was done by them to the name of Christ.

When the name of both names of Hyles and Anderson are removed from the School(s), the church publically holds all responsible accountable, and purges the name Hyles from being esteemed, then perhaps they may again gain a bit of credibility.

Until then, there is nothing worthy of any support for the institutions or church.

I've met Pastor Wilkerson and heard him preach, and believe he is a good man. I have heard that the administration there is working quietly to right some past wrongs, but don't know anything more than that.

I have to agree, a name change seems like the no-brainer first step.

Actually, a name change has been requested--by Russell Anderson, the rich man who gave the money to start the college! It seems that Wilkerson is not radical KJV-Only like Hyles became after the death of John R. Rice. Here's the open letter Anderson wrote with his demand (scroll down past the top page for the actual letter): http://www.soulwinning.info/bible/NoteFromDrAnderson.pdf.

Interesting. I am shocked that no one in my church ever told me about this. The letter is dated December 17, 2015, so it has been almost five-and-a-half years since Russell Anderson gave his ultimatum of "ninety days." What I want to know is how Pastor Wilkerson was able to appease the co-founder of the college. Dr. Anderson has sued at least one ministry in the past when they did not do as he asked, and I am stunned that he did not do the same with FBCH.

He now holds his membership at Clays Mill Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, with Pastor Jeff Fugate. His final years seem to be devoted to helping the Commonwealth Baptist College thrive and assisting in its church planting endeavors within the state.

Though I don't agree on some things, I have to hand it to him, Anderson has used his money for the Lord. Commonwealth is the fourth Bible college he has helped start.

Because of Jack and David Hyles and Jack Schaap I was never a fan of HAC or FBCH. That being said, since all of the problems finally surfaced, Jack Hyles passing, and David Hyles being wherever now, and Jack Schaap being where all three of them belonged, IN PRISON, and with things starting to be rectified, I have found myself mellowing on them. I'm still having some reservations about the college, but, I believe that a name change would be a good thing. It might actually help them in the long run to shed the vestiges of the past. At least it would give them somewhat of a fresh start and show that they're trying to break their ties to the past.

While I agree with you, AVL1984, regarding the name change being a positive step to help "shed the vestiges of the past," I just cannot see Pastor Wilkerson taking such a drastic step while Dr. Wendell Evans is alive. Our church has some close connections to FBCH, and we have learned that Pastor Wilkerson deeply respects and honors Dr. Evans. That man essentially worships the memory of Jack Hyles; thus, it seems unlikely that the name of Hyles-Anderson would be removed from the college while the man who ran it for most of its existence was still living.

It seems that Pastor Wilkerson and his allies are doing a great job of "breaking ties with the past" in other ways, though. Besides the note from Dr. Anderson mentioning the changes that Wilkerson has either directly made or indirectly allowed, FBCH and HAC have begun to slowly return into fellowship with other spheres of Baptistic Fundamentalism. Pastors Johnny Pope (an HAC graduate from long ago who affiliates closely with PCC), Clarence Sexton (Temple Baptist Church and Crown College of the Bible), and Paul Chappell (Lancaster Baptist Church and West Coast Baptist College) have all given their support and affirmation to John Wilkerson in his pastorate at First Baptist and his leadership of Hyles-Anderson.

I agree with you about the name change, and I agree with TheOldJudge that it probably won't happen.
