I got saved by asking Jesus in my Heart, 25 years ago this month and I KNOW I'm saved.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

    Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

The Holy Spirit was not yet given??? Angel of the Lord, was Jesus back in them days.

Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

    Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

If i'd asked Jesus to come and save me that would be the place to start.

I know, what I know, and how I got saved. I don't agree with the people, that say don't ask Jesus in your heart.
When I was about 13 I went to a church, the pastor said, if you would like to get save come see me after church I did, he said the sinners prayer and then I did, he said you are now saved, NOT, I was still hell bound, but as a kid my thinking was I'm saved.
It was when I was 18 that a co-worker started to tell me about Jesus, I put her off for three months. Then that one day I the same thing, but this time her words HIT me,so she said Jim would you like to pray, and we did and when I said Jesus come into my heart WOW, let me say that again WOW!! I was a new being at that piont.
The Holy Spirit bring a man to God. I think asking Jesus to come into you heart falls under Romans 10:13- For whosoever shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

what was it that your co work told you regarding Jesus? i believe that asking Jesus to come into your heart is not really a biblical equation for faith in Him. can you expound on what was told to you by your co worker?

To many people make getting saved so complicated. Jesus made it a very simple process.

Where do you want Him? Your head?, foot?

who is making it complicated? God gave us His record concerning Christ how he died was buried and raised the third day, so if some want to depend upon a process so be it.

Did you say you got saved at 13 and then got saved at 18 too? I hear what you did. I don't hear what Christ did. I don't hear repentence and faith. I don't hear how your life has changed. I don't hear Christ magnified. I hear "I prayed to recieve Jesus into my heart". I hear "I know what I know" and no one can tell me different. OK.

I said the "sinners prayer" at least a dozen times before I was saved. Never once did it save me. Every time I joined a different church, they wanted me to say the "sinners prayer" and be baptized. The sinners prayer leads to false assurance among those not truly converted. I know, because I lived it. The day I was saved, I was about to be baptized into yet another church, this time a Southern Baptist Church. I had already "walked the isle and said the prayer". I had read the bible through several times. As I waited, I had an overwhelming sense of grief of what my life had become. It was the Holy Spirit bringing conviction upon me. I was in agony. I literally wished to die. I lay on the floor and begged God for mercy. I begged for salvation or death. I didn't want to continue in my condition. My sin was very real to me and I knew I was a sinner bound for hell. It was then that I remembered Christ on the cross. It was then I repented of who I was (a sinner) and what I had done (sin). I believed the promises of God. I saw Christ high and lifted up. First on the cross and then at the right hand of God. Jesus was my Savior and my Lord for the first time in my life. I didn't "pray to recieve Jesus into my heart" because He was already there the moment I turned to Him in faith by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My life has never been the same. I have had my fill of a sinful life. I don't say I am perfect by any means. I can say I cannot sin without that same sense of dread I felt on that day I was saved. Jesus is my Lord, and I can never turn back, nor do I want to. To Jesus be the Glory for ever and ever. Let every man close his mouth and praise God.

JD - No prayer means anything unless it comes from the heart. I tend to shy away from "canned" prayer, and when I witness and encourage others to ask Christ into their hearts I usually approach it more like, "Have a talk with God about it. Ask Him for forgiveness, ask Him to be Your God - not just in name, but in reality."

    1 Corinthians 8:2
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

    Galatians 6:3
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Are we in ONE Spirit here?? I can't believe some people, trying to squeez lemon jusice from an apple!! I bet some would say, Lord I didn't like the way you died, please try it this way.

    Jim,

I hope you didn't take my post as a criticism of you. I certainly didn't mean it that way. I was responding to comments about how the sinner's prayer can lead to false assurance. I am not against the sinner's prayer, in general, just leary of making sure that it isn't just words, and that is has meaning.

I think your testimony is awesome.

No this go's out to the ones that read the story, and pick one line from it and dwell on that line and pick at it, and in turn they miss what the story is about. that's why I think we miss out on the blessings of God, for when he tells us something, through someone, we just want to pick it apart, and we MISS IT.

I agree with what jdcanady said. People need to really understand that they ARE a sinner.....many people, in their prayer, SAY they know they are a sinner....but do they really? Do they REALLY understand what makes them a sinner? That's what God's Law is for. To reveal to us, to open our eyes and make us understand WHY we need a Savior. I highly recommend The Good Person Test and I also highly recommend watching "What Standard" to see the "Good Person Test" being given.
