I just finished...what are you reading right now?

I like to do a whole book at the time as well. My mind does better though, if I just do either OT or NT, but not simultaneously unless the relate to each other (and often they do)

 

well, I am doing a study through Romans and James with teens at church - one Wednesdays and one Sundays. My personal study has been in there, of course, and also some in the major prophets. I feel very weak in OT and I am trying to better my understandings there.

So are you going in order with Gen/Matt, Ex/Mark...? Whats your system?

 

Joseph that is a good plan. The OT prof I just took in my doctoral classes said he felt Deuteronomy was the most important book in the OT and the equivalent of Romans to the NT.

 

I have a similar problem, too. I tend to not want to finish when it gets over my head or beyond what I know. I think you have a neat way to study! Do you read commentaries along with the passages or just get what ya get?

 

Consider yourself blessed. I would love to go back and take an OT class. I need it.

well, I graduated from seminary, but at the time, they only required NT or OT for music majors. (I know, that is TERRIBLE.) My husband helps me greatly with questions I have, but his mind works far differently than mine does. We are on different planes. But I may just take a course sometime. Things like that are worth making time for.

 

This year I am reading straight through...Genesis to Revelation. I have tried part of the old and part of the new before, and personally, I find it rather "disjointed". I decided to get the WHOLE picture this year, beginning to end! I am absolutely loving it! I read 3-4 chapters per day, and then LOTS of chapters on weekends.

Did you know that chronologically, Nehemiah is the last of the historical books? As far as the Jews are concerned, the Old Testament goes no further with their history. The rest of the OT books take place during the previous books. I am in Isaiah now, but I am going to try to read the books of the major and minor prophets in chronological order because it has become so fascinating. Can't wait to get to the NT and then to the end of the book!

I generally read a commentary intro to the book I am beginning just to get a feel for when it was written, and the overall message of the book. It has helped tremendously in understanding what is taking place, and why.

My family is following our church's Bible reading plan in which every year the OT is read through once, and the NT twice.

However, we ended up taking longer with this plan because we are reading it out loud together. Right now we are in Ezekiel and Galatians.

Clint, I do appreciate very much your faithfulness in posting the daily Bible readings here. If anyone needs a plan, there is one here on the BB that Clint posts daily.

Somebody else has let me borrow a new pictoral of WW2 classic tactics-----"What'd you do in your study all day, Blackbird???"

"I looked at pictures of WW2!" Talk about bombs, bullets, and bravery---especially when the snoopers find out that I spent all day looking at pictures of bombs that have already gone off and ships that have already been sunk and bridges that have already beenblown to smither-reens!!! But its cool and I like it!!!

 

Reading the Gospel of Matthew at lunch these days. Reading "The Purpose Driven Life" too, almost finished with that.

Got a Popular Mechanics and a college football magazine that I am grazing on as well.

 

My girlfriend lent me Purpose Driven Life but I haven't started it yet. I am reading the Star Wars book edition of the movie that is out now.
What college football team do you like LovesJesus?

 

Our Sunday School class is just finishing up Adrian Roger's "What Every Christian Ought to Know". We watch his videos, then have a workbook and then we have discussion. We are starting Adrian's "Kingdom Autority" series next.
