A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
It's not as if the founding fathers didn't know the natural consequences of this amendment being authors of a free State which fought the tyranny of the British Crown.
They were well aware of the risks of abuse of firearms by the undisciplined yet still felt it necessary in order to retain "the security of a free State".
And so it remains to this day.
True, it can be changed at the will of the people.
