I visited an SDA church......

I don't agree with all of their theology (E.G. White for instance).

But I do agree that the Sabbath is Saturday and God never changed it.

Glad to know you had a good worship service. I am SDA as it turns out. My "guess" is that the worship service you attended did not quote from many sources "other" than the Bible.

In the end - any denomination you visit will have to prove their doctrines "sola scriptura" and that includes SDAs.

My own philosophy is "take the lazy way out" whatever fits the Bible "with the least amount of wrangling" is probably the right doctrine.

For example - I would gladly BE Calvinist IF it acdtually turned out that when paying attention to the "details" in scripture - Calvinism left me with a much easier time reading the Bible and no need to "re-edit" and "re-define terms" with each page of scripture contradicting that view.

I would gladly be Catholic - be a member of the largest Christian denomination on the planet and let the Pope tell me what to think IF the Bible really did support praying to the dead, inventing purgatory, persecuting other Christians, Baptism of non-believers, priests with magic powers to perform sacraments that "change the status of the soul" etc. But since all of that is an "uphill battle" when it comes to scripture - a lazy guy like me could never go there.

So for me it is "ONE" Gospel in all of time (both OT and NT). Saved by Grace through faith in BOTH OT and NT. Where the New Covenent IS the ONE Gospel in all of time, and the one church I find that best proclaims that happens to be the denomination I am a member of. (not a big surprise I suppose).

I think they are good, they are the second fastest growing church globally behind the Assemblies of God. There main growth is in South America and in various other countries.

I am not SDA, but I am happy enough to visit occasionally, and they are gracious enought to accept me as a visitor and accept that I am with the Seventh Day Baptist Church and do not try to convert me.

My experience is that some SDA's are hung up on the writings of Ellen White, yet most SDA people I have met would never say that they are as authoritive as the Bible as their opponents would claim.

The only two disagreements that I have is the 1844 investagtive judgement doctrine which I dont believe I have read the passages in Daniel, but I feel that revelation was closed in the end of the book of revelation, so even if it did happen that way it would not be revealed until the comming of the Lord.

Secondly I disagree on what people call "soul sleep", yet I acknowledge that many Baptists do accept that teaching and I certainley do not believe that either issue is a Salvation Issue.

So overall I would say the SDA are pretty good!

 

And lets not forget that to some degree the Seventh-day Baptists are "grandparents" to the Adventists in that the Adventists "got the Sabbath" teaching from the Seventh-day Baptists.

As far as I know this is the only case of an entire denomination choosing to accept the Sabbath because of the witness from a member of another Christian denomination.

You may be interested to know Bob that several Sunday keeping Baptist Churches have also scince made the switch to the SDB after becoming convicted by the Holy Spirit about keeping the Ten Commandments.

 

Thanks Ben - I have not heard that but would like to know more about it.

However you have to admit that this is not the same as having all Fundamentalist Baptist or all Southern Baptist churches all choosing to keep Christ the Creator's Sabbath. As far as a "demonination-level" change the SDAs went from Adventist to Seventh-day Adventist over this issue and in more recent years one of the Church of God denominations swithed out and they no longer honor the Creator's Sabbath commandment - as a favor to Christ (supposedly).
