I wonder if...

both Senator Obama and Senator McCain secretly hope that he loses on November 4 given the horrible economic mess he will inherit on January 20, 2009.

I figure they both want to win given the prestige of being president of the United States, but whoever wins had best have a huge supply of antacid and headache medicine available.

It's not going to be fun. He may end up wishing he was a community organizer again, and McCain may end up wishing he never ran....

In my teenage long range plans this was the year I was going to run for president. I had it all worked out.

I think I am glad it didn't work :)

I was wondering the same thing. In fact, the content of your topic was part of a conversation I had last night. There for awhile it even seemed as though one of the candidates wanted to lose.

Anyway, you're right, whoever wins is inheriting a mess.

Any candidate for the POTUS usually has a very large ego. I imagine they are both exhilarated by the potential challenge, in order to show that they can "save" the country with their brilliance. (And I speak to both major candidates on this, but probably one moreso than the other.)

I once heard it said that anybody who WANTS to be the daddy rabbit, doesn't deserve to be.

(If that's fer sure, then I truly deserve to be, cuz I sure don't want it!!!)

In all seriousness I fail to see why anybody would want that job with all the headaches entailed therein.

And considering the folks God chose for His work, that saying just may be true - cuz off-hand I can't think of one that jumped for joy when God said "You da man!"

Ego probably is the driving force, so that says something about what you have to choose from.

But won't Obama simply part the Red Tape, and we'll all go waltzing into the promised land?

at least that's how NBC told me it would work... :D

I dunno. Being a dictator in a martial law police state after an economic collapse like we're in for is probably a rather appealing proposition for power hungry folks like career politicians running for the highest office. So, I guess now we get to choose between a leftist dictatorship or an even more leftist dictatorship.

I think this will feed Obama's ego in that he can fashion himself as a White Knight of sorts. I think McCain is probably swallowing hard right now.

...and right now. :type:

Way to start managing expectations, Ken!

Yes, whomever wins inherits lots of troubles, including with the economy. And if Obama wins there will be a short upswing on Wall Street and the rest of the economy based on optimism. Our economy is based, after all, on fear. And, of course, Obama will be leaving office just as the havoc caused by his policies will be coming to the fore, in time to blame the next president, as the souring Clinton economy was blamed on Bush.

Whoever wins will be ending the war in Iraq. Though McCain doesn't want to embolden the enemy by declaring this, Obama has no qualms using the safety of our troops for political gain.

Whoever wins will appoint the next Supreme Court judge or judges, though Obama would appoint one that will further establish murder by abortion and gay marriage, and McCain would appoint one that would be against Abortion and gay marriage, but possibly for stem cell research.

Vote as God leads you, not your fear, anger, or pride.

Whoever gets to be chief puppet next isn't going to have alot of choices. We're broke. We can't afford to maintain the global empire anymore. We might even be so broke that Obama will have to break his promise of bilking us 845 billion dollars for another unconstitutional welfare package to the world. McCain isn't going to have all those billions and hundreds of billions if not trillions extorted from us in the form of unconstitutional taxes to keep the endless wars going for quite as long as he'd like either.
