    And not having to pay dudes to work for you would represent tremendous savings. You would see mega rich in primary resources maintaining fantastic lifestyles, but far less drive to advance technologically.

    The Romans had vast slave economies and it eventually threatened to destabilise the Empire. Wealthy patricians swallowed up the farm land belonging to ordinary Romans and had endless vineyards inhabited by mostly Gallic slaves.

    Ordinary Romans and veterans were pushed into poverty living city lives, disconnected from the land and hard work. Roman civilisation grew from the tough farming citizen soldier with a stake in Rome’s defense. Ownership of land was his stake in Rome’s defense.

    This was the beginning of Rome’s slow death by decadence.

    # 7 (from the link) said the North would be all Republicans and the South would be all Democrats.

    Hmm In the 1864 election - the Dem recd 45% of the vote
    in the 1868 election the Republicans won at least 5 Southern States
    and the Dems won at least 5 Northern States!
