Don't state marriage laws already stipulate that a person may only be married to one person? Otherwise it is polygamy.
Right, but what would be the controlling principle that would prevent those laws too from being changed?
After all if marriage is not between one man and one woman in keeping with Judeo-Christian beliefs (which I hold to be the current controlling principle in the U.S.) what will be the controlling principle that replaces it?
I don't know. Tax laws? Can only have a joint return, can't have a trio or quad return?

Obama claims to be a Christian and also claims that the Bible supports homosexual [gay is a misnomer] marriage. If Christians continue to support this person and the party that backs him then we will deserve what God deals out to us.
I heard a conversation on NPR a couple of weeks ago essentially saying that is what is next. Since those who desire gay marriage have no moral grounds to oppose polygamy, that is where our country will go to next. This will delight the Mormons and Muslims for sure.
Anyways, I fully believe gay marriage will be legal and available in all 50 states in the next 5 to 10 years. (Shorter if President Obama gets re-elected.)
I may be wrong, but I thought that the legality of polygamy in the United States was pretty much settled when the controversy over Utah's admission as a state was settled in 1896.
Of course, even if it was settled back then, that probably won't keep the liberal dumbacrats from trying to enact legislation allowing for polygamy. After all, "The more, the merrier," right?!!? :smilewinkgrin:

I personally oppose same-sex marriage, but I'm okay with civil unions for gay people. However, I believe this is not a Federal issue. Marriage belongs in the sphere of the States. I do not believe the Federal Constitution should be read to confer a right to same-sex marriage. I also oppose any Federal marriage amendment which would deny the people of the State of Florida their sovereign right to make laws concerning marriage.

If the libs are successful in their push to set aside the Judeo Christian standard of one man/one woman then there is no guiding principle to replace it.
Once that guiding principle is gone there is nothing to limit who may or may not marry at all.
There would be no basis for arguing against any unholy union at all.
Three men and six women? Why not?
Two brothers and their cousin? Why not?
A mother and here triplet sons? Why not?
