I think most of us agree that we want to help the poor, but have drastically different ideas about how to go about it.

In the mind of the extreme far left (such as the op) if you help the poor but do not do it their way then your help of the poor doesn't count and cannot therefore be mentioned in public. You have to do it their way for it to count.

Rev. if you church and other churches did their jobs as Christ taught there would be no need for any government programs. Please increase your church budget such that you spend more helping the poor than your church spends on your salary.

I have never see you suggest any manner of helping the poor. So, what is your ideas on helping the poor?

Do you agree that Christ taught we should help the poor and people in need?

On your "this country has always helped the poor" simply shows your abysmal ignorance of American history. Ever hear of debtors prison? Did you know they are on the increase here in the States?
Ever hear of slavery?

Okay everybody, time to post up your church's financial statement to prove that it's charitable enough. And charitable in the approved manner.

I had a copy of my Church's budget sitting next to me from a recent business meeting. Just doing quick math in my head, what I would consider helping worked out to a little more than the Pastor's salary. There are many things that are done by, and paid for by the members that never see the balance sheet.

It's really between the individual Church, and God, as to how they use their funds, talents, and other resources.

One Church may run a soup kitchen for the homeless, another may send out Missionaries. If that is what God wants them to do, then they are in God's will, and there is no better place to be.
