If you can't go to church for the right reasons, why go at all?

I would say people do it to impress others, to score "brownie points" with God, among other reasons I can't think of now.

I would hope that if someone was going to church for the wrong reasons (whatever they may be, and it is not for me to judge) that they would be blessed with the truth through their attendance. That the Lord would speak to them and reveal Himself to them in a mighty and awesome way.

    Blessings

Maybe they're not going for the right reasons, but they think they are. Fine, because then they are around the Gospel being preached.
(Of course, Christians they come across daily should witness to them.)

I think that following is possible:

    1. Go for the social contacts

    2. To impress other people

    3. Go for business contacts

just a few I can think of.

But, I agree, even if the reason is wrong, God can use others to show them the real reason for going to church.

People generally know meaning of right or wrong. I find in our area many people go to church because they think it's the right thing to do.

Many will come because of "Momma" while they will not go for any other reason.

Many lost people ( & Christians too )will come to church for the wrong reasons, get saved and come for the right reasons. As Christians we can get side tracked. Come for a building, a program, a preacher and alot of other reasons. Sometimes we need a spiritual tune-up to get us on the right track.

    1. Doing the right thing for the right reason.
    2. Doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
    3. Doing the wrong thing for the right reason.
    4. Doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason.

    Action 1 is right.
Action 2 is a good thing but will get you no rewards. (Feeding the hungry will at least feed them but you are left out of any praise if you did it to impress someone)
Action 3 is wrong and might even be an oxymoron. (If you knew it was wrong)
    Action 4 is wrong (period)

In the big picture, of what benefit is going to church for the wrong reason?

Is God not big enough to use ANYTHING to His Glory?

You do what God says from a heart of obedience to the faith He has given.

So I am to fellowship, attend and be an active part of a local church. God said it. Whether I "enjoy" it or not or even "like" it or not is NOT the issue.

Whatever we do, it had better be by faith.

I do not know if this goes with this question, but, I have seen some business owners go to church so that people from the church will buy things like cars/trucks/RV's, lawn mowers/Tractors, Shop at their stores, Go to their Beauty Salons/Barber shops, Jewlery Store, etc. It is good for business to go to Church.

I have also seen people go to church somewhere to get voted in on some board, on election day. Or get someone to vote yes or no on something.

I have seen a lot of people use church to gain a lot of power in the community.

I have also seen sincere people that own business's go to church too. So please do not think everyone in my community is like this.
