If you could change ONE thing - what would it be? It can be something in YOUR life, or something IN life generally, or whatever you want it to be. Can't be a broad answer like "world peace." Please be as specific as possible.

I would have listened to my parents when I was a teenager. They didn't like my 'high school sweetheart, who was the man I later married. Their judgment was right; he walked out on me and the children after 20 years of marriage. Honoring one's parents is much more important than I knew then. I would have had some grief then, in giving up this boyfriend before marriage, but I would have saved incredibly more grief from both me and the children and the entire family if I had honored my parents.

It didn't matter that they weren't Christian. The commandment does not say "Only honor your parents if they are believers."

When I was in my mid to late teens I felt the Holy Spirit so very strong. I resisted his guidance even though I was Baptized. After a few years I became almost unable to feel his pull because I resisted for so long. Through the grace of the the Good Lord I began to feel the pull of the Holy Spirit again in my 40's. I no longer resisted but began to Walk with Christ. What I would change would be the fact that I resisted the guiadance of the Holy Spirit to follow after Christ and to bare fruit. I tell people, now when I witness, that God is waiting for them to turn to him. The Good Lord is always there, all we have to do is open our heart.

My major in college. I should not have gotten an Education degree.

    I should have studied law.

I would of Got on me knees and prayed for God's will on Dec 30, 1990. That was the day I left Fairhaven Baptist College. I was totally ot of God's will for a long long time. It took me several years before I went back to church. I look now at my life and I see what i am and i know what I could have been if I only did what the Lord wanted me too. :( But now I am trying and yes even struggling with getting my way back to God. The one thing I knew was that I was saved. I felt the holy Spirit nuggingme all the way! [IMG] Praise God when He Promised us that He will never leave us of forsake us, even if we turn our backs on Him!

    Three come to mind -</font>
    • Burning out in the pastorate in 84 (I was well past my 20's btw) is something that changed my life for good and ill.</font>
    • Living under false guilt brought on by ifb psycho-preaching that is NOT biblical. Took me many years to work through the legalism and destructive parts of that teaching. Isn't grace amazing?</font>
    • My myopia as "baptist-only" for so many years, not recognizing the wonderful fellowship with real genuine believers in a variety of faiths. Especially in my preaching as limited before to Baptist groups and now expanded to others. Really life-changing!</font>

I would have listened and learned more from my Grandparents. I would also have changed the time when I got saved. Oh, to have been saved 10 years earlier when I first had the chance.

I would change the way I've handled things concerning my step-son for the 2 1/2 years I've been married to his Mom. That part of the marraige has been a total disaster. :(

Yes, I thought also that I would love to have been saved much earlier. I should have chosen a different carreer. I am or was what they call over here,an industrial painter. Now my work has affected my health in a realy bad way. I have been doing this for most of my life and now I must change. I have not the slightest idea what I will do,but I am not worried, jesus will show me the way. he always does [IMG]

When it's all said and done, the real desire in all of us is to start over, to be born again. It's a desire for Christ. He is properly named the Desire of nations.

The question was about ONE thing. There are many things I would change in my life, but then, isn't it a way of saying that God has not been faithful to me? He has ordered everything in my life to accomplish His purposes of Redemption in me, and to conform me to the image of His Son.

The one thing that I would change is from birth. I would have been born to a Chrisitan mother and father. I would have had a father that would have been there and he would have been very protective over his little princess. What I mean by that is that I would have not been able to wear make up when I wanted to, I would not have been able to date until I was at least 18, and I definitely would have not been aloud to wear the skimpy clothing and high heels everyday in high school. I guess what I really longed for is a very overprotective father. Of course when I was a teenager I would have thought that dad was being unfair, but now looking back that is what I needed and wanted the whole time. Plus if I had that dad, I would have concentrated on school instead of dropping out to "party" and then just getting my G.E.D. This whole overprotective father thing would have been much better than how I really grew up, never meeting my real father and then having countless step-fathers that abused me. Oh well I, along with God, am dealing with my issues. The biggest thing that I pray about is that God will help let go of the pain of my childhood.

I would have bought all the Microsoft stock I could as early as possible, and cashed in my current mutual funds in 1999. :D
I wish I had found a better church, or at least a good Christian student organization, in college.
I really neglected my faith because I did not like my home church or the BSU at school. I should have kept searching, instead of giving up and acting like every other partying secular college student.

I too wish I had goton saved much earlier. I was 11 when I did surrender to Christ. It should have been sooner.
But the thing I wish I could change most is a day 2 years ago. I was a baby Christian and even though I was raised in a good Baptist church I was learning things like every new Christian.
I was at school. That day we had a preacher for a substitute teacher. He wasn't afraid to speak the truth even if he was in a public school.
There was a really troubled girl in that class and she was doing everything she could to make things hard for him to teach and wittness.
Finaly he stopped the class and outright asked her why she was so angrey at God and life in general.
She railed at him. She was from a troubled life, and seemed as though she didn't have anyone to care about her.
By now, I knew the HOly Spirit was telling me to share with her about God's grace and His love.
He was already wittnessing to her, and as I stood up to speak one of her friends yelled for me to "shut up."
Some of you may not know, but I have terrible nerves and am on meds for them. I can have attacks when people are yelling and even if I hear a loud noise. When she yelled, she scared me to death. So I didn't say more. I should have but I failed.
I could tell the Holy Spirit was dealing with her, because she started crying. The preacher was trying to tell her of God's love. After class he asked her to stay and speak with him.
I'll never know what happened. If she did get saved, or if she hardened her heart again. I don't know. She moved away about a week later.
The point is, I failed her by not telling the gospel. I failed Christ because I didn't take a stand for Him.
I will always regret my reaction. Who knows, my silence may send her to hell. I've asked God to forgive me, and I know He has, but I can't look back at that day with out feeling a deep saddness.
That's why I can't be silent. That's why I HAVE to stand up for something that's right. I can't sugercoat things for people. I can't make it seem like no big deal. It is important how you live your life. It is mportant to have a good set apart testimony.
We must make efferts to abstain from this world. For if we don't, we may never lead anyone to the Lord.
This world will not put faith in a Christian who lives like the world. They expect us to be perfect, and even though we know that is an impossibility, we must live serperated lives. We must set an example for what is right. We must represent Christ in a GOOD way.
Take it from someone who learned the hard way. Don't stay silent when you know something isn't right or when someone you meet needs the gospel. I failed, but that dosn't mean I have to again, and it dosn't mean you have to.
    In Our Saviour, ~Abby

    Warm Christian greetings!

While I believe it is right to look back and learn from past mistakes I am concerned that we don't dwell on these things. Remember the words of Paul in Philippians 3 v 13,14.

    Kind regards

Unfortunately, I have more than one thing...

1)When I student taught prior to graduation from college in '86, I would have gone to a school other than the one I graduated from 4 years prior.

2)I would not have had a deep a relationship with my last girlfriend(given how things are today)

3)I would not have moved to Georgia 4 years ago just because my new job there put me alot closer to the aforementioned girlfriend.

4)After I got fired from the job in 3), I would have moved to Atlanta to start my new job--instead of staying in the small town I relocated to earlier.

5)I would have stayed in Georgia after the same girl dumped me just as I was getting ready to move to Alabama.

6)I would not have bounced around from church to church like I have the past 3 years.

7)I would have started my own tutoring business 2 years ago, instead of worrying about getting a master's in math

8)I would not have worked at the supermarket I did in Greensboro, knowing how I got taken advantage of there

9)I would have prayed before accepting a teaching assistantship to help me with my graduate studies at Mississippi State

10)I would have kept away from the BSU and other christian groups at MSU, and spent more time studying math

11)I would have prayed a little harder after flunking out of MSU.

In life generally it would be to stop all the hate in peoples hearts, and have each and everyone of our hearts be full of the love of God.

Thank you all for your terrific comments. I too can think of many things that I would love to change. I thank GOD for the blessing of bringing positive change when HE allows it. Of course, there are some things that may not be given for us to change. Isn't it wonderful to reflect upon Philipians 3:13 at such times?
