If you had to pick 4 books from the Bible?

    What books would you pick?
    1. Would it be the Gospels where Jesus teaches that all men have a right to go to Heaven?

    2. Would it be Eph and Romans where some believe the "election" means that the Children of God were pre-chosen?

    3. Would it be Revelations where many books have been written about the "end times, thousand year reign, tribulations, wrath of God, judgement and accending into Heaven?

    4. Would it be books of Moses, creation of man, fall of man, flood and Noah, Job, Isaiah or little Ruth?

How would it change how you believe today about predestination?

I would pick Genesis, Isaiah, John, and revelation. Im not sure though under what circumstances you would have us pick these. And why doing so would effect my view of predestination.

However, I might just be having a blonde moment.

I would take the Penteteuch and I do not believe it would affect my view or predestination at all.

So then is Free Will a myth since it is all Predestined? God knows all and knows who will falter, we do not, so who are we to say who is Predestined? No ones knows for certain, only God, so one must continue to work on doing God's will - it may be predestined but not knowing for sure I am - I choose to believe in Free Will and that no one is guaranteed Salvation expcept through Christ.

God's Children are pre-chosen but not all will be saved since Free Will exists, again, God know's who, I do not

    choose books for what?
if anyone is prechosen, but not saved then they aren't God's children, and God is not in control as the bible says HE is as He can't save someone without their permission.

Genesis = God's majesty and soverengty is first revealed: nothing like knowing that God created the heaven and the earth to recognise that we are as dirt or clay and moldable in His hands.
John = John tells us how much God loves us, even in our sin.
Romans = ...but you probably foreknew that I'd choose it.
Hebrews = keeping my eyes fixed on His eternal plan.

I am not sure I understand. If I could choose only 4 books from the Bible, and that is it...it would no longer be THE Bible. Therefore, I would not allow it to change my point of view on anything.

    I think I would choose:
    1. Genesis=to learn of the creation and fall of man. Created by whom and the Commandments. Also the faith of Abel and Noah.

    2. Matthew= I think I would want to know the Love God had for us. about repentance and rewards. About mercy and love your enemies. How to live your life.

    3. John= To learn about the knowledge of being saved.

    4. Revelations= To study end times, The Holy City and Heaven. The water of life and Wrath of God. The judgement of those who did not accept Christ. The eternal fall of man and the eternal redemption of man.:praying:

I realize now that no one is going to make a statement of how it would change their beliefs including me. :)

I second this choice and do not care about whether that choice affects my view of predestination.

Genesis: science, to know how we got here and why

Ezekiel: so full of prophecy and dry humor

Luke: tells the story so nicely

Revelation: gives us hope and knowledge of where we're going

It's rough for someone who loves poetry to take Job out of there, and for someone who loves music to take out Psalms.

I could be convinced to take out Ezekiel for one of them, but Ezekiel is such a neat book!

Absolutely gotta have the beginning and end and one of the synoptics though.

You're just plain mean making us pick. LOL

I third that choice! The books were: Genesis, Psalms, John and Romans. Although, this is a tortuous decision to make considering the other 62 books not chosen. Some honorable mentions:

    Luke
    Acts
    Matthew
    Proverbs
    Isaiah
    Deut.
    Hebrews
    Ephesians
    Galatians
    I John
    Job
    Exodus

The fact is, all Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching and reproof. I'm glad we don't have to choose!

I would take the Penteteuch, too...oh no, that's 5 books! I guess I would leave out the book of Numbers and keep the other four.

Well, I wouldn't choose "Revelations" because there is no such book. :tongue3: (Two people spelled it this way -- Revelation is about one revelation given to John).

    Genesis
    Isaiah
Matthew (I was reading Matthew when I was saved)
    Hebrews
    ............................

But it's hard leaving out John and Romans.

I am not commenting on the predestination, pre-chosen issue because I'm tired of almost every thread being turned into a Calvinist/nonCalvinist debate).

Thanks for correcting my spelling. I hate that when I do that for its not the first time either. I think its because there are so many different revelations when you get into the book.:)
