Last week I got the call I knew was coming. My moms next door neighbor died. The gentlemen was 88 years old, a vet of WW2 (wounded /lost leg). This man treated me like a member of his family, knowing that I had lost my dad, this guy became like a surrogate father....taking me to baseball games, allowing me into his family, giving career & life encouragement etc.

So as I sat there thinking of this & the recent loss of two cousins I grew up with & now this man I began to imagine my own funeral. Who would go to it, who were my real friends, had I done what I wanted to do in my life etc.... you know a wake up call.

So if you look back at your own life .... are you content, would you do it any differently, anything you'd like to change before it's too late?

I would be reluctant to (if possible) go back and change much, since those decisions ultimately led me to where I am now - pretty much content with my lot!

There are a few things I would change were it possible.
1 - I would be a much better student in college :tear:
2 - There are a couple of girls that liked me that I would have treated better:tear:
3 - I would allow Christ to be Lord of my life much sooner that I did.:tear::tear:

Other than these, not knowing how it would impact my future, I would be very, VERY careful about changing anything.

Incidentally, the above three examples are listed in chronological order, not importance! (If the third had come early enough, the other two would likely not have been a problem)

Someone asked something similar to this on another forum a few days ago. I'll just c/p what I said as I still mean it.

[1.] I would have developed a deeper relationship with my mother and not put up so many barriers between us. Everything is good, but strained. My mother is a HUGE blessing to me. We haven't always had a great relationship. In fact, there've been times when it was pretty bad. About as bad as you can get. I fully take the blame for it.

But as I matured and emulated HER wisdom, things changed. There is still a small strain, and I feel badly for it. But I love her. She's the finest Christian woman I know. She is not only wise, but extremely brilliant. She's noble, VERY strong, faithful, giving, and appreciative. She isn't perfect. But neither am I.

My father always told me that the reason that we fought so much was that we were two peas in a pod. Both bull-headed. It was when I took his counsel so many years ago and began to see her as my "twin pea" that I realized that he was right.

Here's a picture of us in 1963. My baby brother was two months old. He was born in March. I am 18 months older than him, so I guess that makes me 20 months old here. My mother is 22 in the picture. She said that I was trying to make him talk on the toy phone and I ended up hitting him with it. [IMG] That's why her hand is on my shoulder keeping me at bay.

If this image is too big, I have a smaller one.

[2.] As a younger person, I would have been much more fearless and not worried so much about what everyone would have whispered about me. They whispered about me anyway. Everybody gossips. Including me. We don't like to call it that when WE do it, but that's what it is. I would have focused more on what God thought of me than people and behaved much more courageously in several situations.

[3.] I would have pined MUCH less over Donny Osmond and David Cassidy. [IMG]
