Well even though you haven't clarified what exactly your asking, I'll try and answer.

"In view of a call" can mean different things for different churches. In general it is basically a time where they bring in a perspective minister to basically do what they do. Depending on the position this can be different. This usually happens when the selection committee has narrowed down their selection to what they believe is their choice. For Pastors they generally they bring you in, have you preach, and most of the time there is a meet and greet. In some cases there can be a private session with the deacons or selection committee that goes more in depth or sometimes a session open to the whole congregation for them to ask questions. As I said every church is slightly different. Some are more formal about the process, some are pretty informal. Some will vote on the spot, some will send you home and vote in the upcoming weeks. The vote is different for every church as well, some require simple majority some require more. If the church agrees, they offer you the position. Then you have the choice to accept or decline.

'In view of a call" is a strange, man-made concept. In Scripture, there were no votes, no "test sermons", no traveling church to church asking for a job, no looking for God's will in the acceptance of men; only God's commands through the Spirit. "In view of a call" is a term meant to make our traditions & beliefs surrounding sole-authority pastorship sound like they're of God. The truth is, the call comes from men, not from God. He does not send men around the country looking for a job as a pastor.

 

So michael if it is wrong then how should it be done then?

 

Before I answer your question, would you answer one for me? Do you think the way we hire & fire pastors, always claiming that it was "God's will", is Scriptural or man's traditions?

Any hostility is a figment of your imagination. I'm still waiting for the pro-in view of a call crowd to support their position with Scripture. If it is not in Scripture, then it is not of God. That is my position.
