Incentive based salary

I could post all day on what's wrong with this...so I'll just say...

I can think of several Biblical figures who wouldn't have gotten paid much...as well as some notable missionaries.

Sheesh, where did they get that "church management expert?" Another case, my friends, of acute cranial-rectal inversion.

 

Sounds like a bad idea to me for many, many reasons. Yup, another "church management expert" earning his keep.

I wish I could remember his name, but one church growth expert I heard a few years ago returned to the pastorate, and realized most of his "great ideas" didn't work.

 

I've never heard of this from an "expert" but from hamstrung churches looking to save a buck while paying for buildings that sit empty 99% of the week.

I had a church propose this to me who was in some financial woes thanks to being raided by...well, long story. The committee who suggested this all drove to the meeting in Escalades after leaving their 3000 sq ft homes.

Preachers aren't salesmen and shouldn't be paid on commission.

Churches desperately need to get back to the Bible and not tradition or the opinions of men for guidance. No wonder Thom Rainer has said one out of four churches will die within the next ten years. I think he's being generous.

 

Memorize six verses and get a patch....

Incentive management works with piece work but not salaried management personnel. Good people are good people no matter where you put them. Poor people stay poor.

I know of a church that brought a staff minister on under a contract that the college group (he was the college minister) would reach a certain number in three years. When it didn't (it had grown substantially, but not to the number in the contract) he was let go.

Not quite as extreme as a commission, but much the same principle.

Of course, a lot of this stems from a horrible misunderstanding of what a pastor does. We've all seen the problems that come from church members with thier own ideas as to what the pastorate is, but now it's coming from a church managment expert too.

 

Sounds like church planting . . . if you can prove that you are a great 'sales person' then we will support your growing church.

I gotta ask: "What happened to God in the equation?"

 

Doesn't sound like any reputable church planting I've ever heard of.

If they let Him in, this church might pay him a $1.

 

If you pay the person $5 to come forward you would be $5 ahead financially.

Incentive management is such a mockery of the gospel.

I guess Wiliam Carey would have starved had he been paid that way. Jesus would have been seen as a failure because he woiuld not have had enough followers in his lifetime.
