Indianapolis 500

If I don't do this now, it won't happen until Tuesday, so let's get the review up now.

Picking it up on lap 48. My wife wasn't feeling well and didn't go to church, and afterwards, I picked up some Chinese for her and I and spaghetti for the kids and the race started while we were doing that.

A few notes:
We listened to some pre-race on the radio and they sort of went on and on about how 11 drivers are rookies. The thing is that most of the drivers aren't true rookies, in that most of these guys came from Champ Car and they're rookies at Indy only. These are not wet-behind-the-ears rookies.

Graham Rahal's wreck was a true rookie mistake. There's no reason he couldn't have backed out of it just a little to get around the slower car going down the frontstretch.

My 9 year old asked if AJ Foyt IV was a rookie driver after the fire they had in the pits. I said, No, he's not a rookie. His problem is that his team is bad. Bad teams have fires in the pits during the Indy 500.

Watching Indy always reminds of watching it when I was a kid. *old creaky voice* When I was young 'un, we didn't get to watch the Indy 500 live. We had to wait until Sunday night to watch it on tape delay.

This guy who just wrecked, Marty Roth, isn't a rookie, but he made a rookie mistake. Of course, it's very easy for me to sit here and say this. These cars go so fast and the closing rate is so quick that it's pretty tough on them when something unexpected happens in front of them.

Speaking of Danica, ESPN Classic was showing old Indy 500's yesterday and they showed the 2005 race, where Todd Harris, the play-by-play guy, turned the race into the Danica Patrick show. It was her 1st Indy 500 and he spent the entire race talking about Danica. It was awful.

This is kinda like a demolition derby, but instead of wrecking everybody else, everybody wrecked themselves.

Yeah, that thing I said earlier about the rookies? Well, it hasn't been all rookies because Milka wrecked in the 500 in either 06 or 07, or both, but this race has been brutal. Seriously, this thing should be over by now. If the Cup race is like this, it won't be midnight till they finish.

Yeah, Danica's done. I don't know if they'll fix the car and get points or not, but, either way, she ought to just park it.

You can see Danica's pretty mad, and I don't blame her for it.

Scott Goodyear acts like Danica going down to Briscoe's pit is a bigger deal because she's a woman. Maybe it is, but I would expect a man to react like she is. So, no, I disagree.

I just counted 18 cars running. Almost half the field has wrecked out. Rather ridiculous.

With 20 laps to go, nobody is patient and they shouldn't be. Maybe this is why Scott Goodyear didn't win the 500. He was being too patient up until the final turn and then it was too late. He finished 2nd to the brilliant run by Al Unser Jr in 1992.

I wouldn't believe it about gas either if I were Scott. Last year, Scott lost the IRL championship because he ran out of gas on the final lap of the final race of the season.

Marco may pass Vitor Meira, but Scott Dixon's winning this race.

Yeah, that 2006 finish was incredible. Michael had a chance to win, Marco almost won and Sam Hornish was brilliant in winning.

I agree. I wouldn't pour milk on me. Milk's too good to waste like that. I'm sure it's nice and cold too, which is the only way milk should be.

My wife and I were talking about Danica going down to Briscoe's pit to express her displeasure and to show that she's right and he's wrong. And, of course, since she's a woman, she's right by default. :wavey:
