That is the exact reason, I am against the rule!!!I’m in favor of it.
Especially so things like this don’t have to happen anymore…
Bad! Part of the game is to wear out the starting pitcher, by running up his pitch count. Intentionally throwing 4 more pitches to walk someone who might hit a homer, should have a cost. Right, nobody shortens up their swing with two strikes and tries to get on base. They close their eyes and swing as hard as they can. Got it!Four pitches that even an old man like me could throw is not exactly taxing a pitcher's arm.
A major reason for batting averages being lower nowadays is that hitting for a high average and avoiding striking out is nowhere near as highly valued as it was back when I was a kid in the 1960s. Now it is all about swinging for the fences.
