I'm frustrated:BangHead: by conflicting dogmatic statements about the pros and cons of interracial marriage. I know that some believe it is perfectly OK as long as both are saved; some hold that black/white is wrong, but that others are not necessarily; still another view I recently heard is a preacher saying that he sees sodomy and interracial marriage in a similar light. What bibilical basis is used for these respective opinions? keep in mind that this view is not cross-cultural, it is interracial.

That does not necessarily mean one is racist. I have several friends who are black.. wonderful christian brothers and sisters. And yet I do not want to see my white granddaughters marrying a black person.
As to it being sodomy, it would have to be for the reason they married. Did they marry because of lust? Then it is sodomy no matter what race they are.

As long as both are saved, neither is being yoked with a non believer, there is no sin in their marriage. What this preacher said is just...eeewwww!

There was a law in Mississippi banning interracial marriage until I was almost out of high school. The law was on the books based on ignorance and bigotry.
Since there is no Biblical mandate against interracial marriage, it really is not a Scriptural question. One might say that a marriage of this type will be shunned by certain individuals because of lingering predjudice and old, outdated myths. Time will solve that problem.
Everyone should marry who God leads them to marry, and not worry about what a few lingering crackpots think about it.

There are several of us on the BB who have married outside of our RACE as race is perceived.
Where do you draw the line? Black/White? Brown/White? Black/Brown? Red/Brown? Actually even though we are of two perceived races, we are both olive in complexion, so it ended up not being a big deal in reality. I guess I got off easy. That doesn't make it RIGHT!

You have every right to make choices based on any criteria of a person--just so you don't look down on someone just because they are of a certain color. The Bible never said not to make choices based on race, you got that from some ungodly humanist.
This is difficult because we have used a term that is not biblical; therefore we can utilize our own definitions and ramifications of it.
Now, back to the original question, if y'all don't mind: what is the biblical basis? and why did God separate into races if He did not want some form of distinction?

While interracial marriage is not a Biblical question, racism is. Growing up in Mississippi in the 50s and 60s, segreation permeated every aspect of society. It was pure evil from the pits of hell.
I really do not know why God created all the different races. I do know one thing. It is not an excuse to not love your neighbor as yourself, and respect everyone as a human being regardless of outward appearance.
