    Anyone ever hear of "ooparts?"

    Secrets of the Lost Races

So, are "modern inventions" really "modern?"

Ancient men were no less intelligent than we. The Ionian Greeks were almost at the point of inventing calculus.

A nation in South America had developed a primitive sort of chemical electroplating. The steam engine goes back to Hero of Alexandria. Damascus steel is still a wonder.

But there has never before been the sort of technological explosion that has occured in the last 200 years.

Lots of writers have been awed by the fact that humans were just as sharp 3000 years ago as they are today.

    Ho hum...

Last I heard, modern science has never been able to duplicate the mortar used in the Great Pyramid.

A tribe of Andean Indians had, about the same time, perfected a more elegant way to place a thin layer of gold on silver and copper objects, using electrochemical processes.

Electricity was known in ancient times, indeed, the word "electricity" is from "electrum", the Greek word for amber (because it would give off static electricity when stroked with fur)

That it had other, more impressive uses wasn't suspected until the late 1600s.
