It has been a long time since I looked at a phone and wrestled with covetousness, but it just happened.

Apple have raised the stakes with their iphone. It looks amazing, and if it functions as well as the ads indicate, then I am not surprised people are rushing out to get one.

Nokia and other companies are going to have to play catch-up!

This is only related because it's about the iPhone. I refuse to look because of the covetnousness thing you just mentioned. Iwill not look. I will not look. I will not . ..

But last week end, youngest son brought his wife's cousin to stay with us. The boy was going to camp at a local uni. At breakfast he said that Apple was suing the makers of the iPhone for copyright infringement.

I, of course, said, "WHAT? Apple made the iPhone?"

"nope, someone else made it and they are just using the name because of all it can do. Apple's gonna sue them. "

I just clamped my mouth shut and didn't make a smart comeback. It was hard, very hard. ;)

I have been interested in the functionality of the iphone since it is just like the new windows that MS is working on and has been talking about. Did Apple beat MS to the punch? Will Apple put it out for the mac?

On another note, the news mentioned last night that the Japanese market has had this technology for years and it is just getting here. If that is true why did it take years to get to the biggest most richest market in the world?

I would love to have one, however there is no way I'd pay that much for phone service - we still don't have a cell phone  I know, DARK AGES, DARK AGES, DARK AGES!

I use a pre-paid cell phone that I use about $5 in airtime every month and the phone cost me $20. Why would I want to pay $500 for a phone and $60 a month to us it. I don't need to surf the web on my phone, I spend enough time on the BB sitting at my desk at home. I rarely listen to music so I don't need to use it's MP3 functionality.

IMHO Whats the BIG DEAL about the iPhone.

What's the big deal?!? What's the big deal?!?

Man, haven't you ever heard: The difference between men and boys, is the price of their toys?

P.S. - I'm not getting one. Got my sites set on a Sony Ericsson W810 or W850

I don't need an Iphone. I do WANT an iPod. I'm tired of the little knock offs.

Knockoffs are cheap  but got the wife an ipod nano and it is soooo nice. I am adequate with the knockoff I have or I'd get another nano at least if not a 30 gig.

We got rid of our verizon contract and got Tracfone. We like that much better.
Rather than paying over $90 per month we now pay less that $20 per month for two phones.
Of course it varies from month to month.
It is usually 7 or 8¢ per minute

I was paying $40 monthly for my cell, which I only use to call my wife from the grocery store when I can't find something, switched to Tracfon, pay $100 annually for 540 total minutes. The only thing I don't like about it is they reduce the minutes available by a full minute for any portion thereof - even one second!

I suggested it to my granddaughters, whose cell phone bills are atrocious, and they said something like "duh...... we use 540 minutes in a month ... if not more!"

Just an old foggy, I guess.

One blog pointed out that due to the initial cost and then the contract you MUST take for at least two years the iPhone will cost $2000 over those two years!

Hands up who still wants one?

I am with you Tom. I don't need one, but I do want one.

I will have to get mine in 5 years though, as I won't go with ATT wireless service. That to me is the biggest weakness in the iPhone, who they partner with.

In 5 years, when the ATT contract is up, maybe they will be better things on the market, if not, and Verizon has an iPhone, then I will look at them.

As with most new things the price will fall with the passing of time. The average contract phone in the UK is going to cost close to $1500 over two years, so I suppose that the iphone is going to be within reach before too long. Pity they haven't launched it here yet.

I looked around and there are a number of very nice alternatives to the iPhone... I would not have one purely because of its association with Apple.

And as all good Baptists know, guilt by association is enough to make something sin. :)

As much as I love APple and would love an iPhone, my tracfone is so cheap, It would be hard to spend over $50 on a phone per month.
Actually the $500 for the unit is good, it is the service contract I would not want.
THe Ipod I have was $500 when it was new but I only paid 200 for it.

Just wait, the iPhone will come down
