IPod touch space

Okay...I'm looking at buying a 32 gb Ipod touch. Will it really hold what I need? How much can you really put on there? I plan to have 15-20 cds, probably less, a couple of gig worth of podcasts, and some assorted apps. So will 32 gb give me the space I need?

32 gig should be enough. I bought an 8 gig I-touch and it has been fine for me. I knew that I would not be loading a lot of music. Rather I have used it primarily to download and read books and to download and listen to books. I really like this toy.

I'm so stoked because while my daughter will be getting a new Mac laptop for her graduation from Grandma and Grandpa, *I* will be getting the iTouch that comes with it!! Woo-hoo!!!!! I'm so excited!

The thing that makes me nervous is when I load an avg CD onto ITunes, it takes about 700 mb. I had high hopes of being able to load more than a dozen CDs on there in addition to all the other things (videos, apps, books, and podcast sermons/lectures). I don't want to be running out of room like I did with my first MP3 player. I filled up 512 mb rather quickly with no room to spare.

A cd converted to mp3 runs in the area of 40 meg. What format are you putting on the ipod?

I have 500+ cds on an 80 gig ipod with big chunk left over.

Maybe that's the issue. The setting is AAC instead of MP3.

32GB should give you plenty of space. I've got about 1300 songs, 2 full length movies, 6 two hour episodes of the Biggest Loser, close to 100 podcasts and about 500 pictures on mine and I've still got over 12GB of space available. In the event I'd even come close to running out of space, I'd remove the TV episodes first.

Suspect the aac is the standard audio from the cds, that would be about right for memory from what you mentioned.

If you want to do better just stick the audio cd in the drive, it should open windows media player. When it opens get into the options and you should find some "rip" settings. The program with rip the music into mp3 files for you.

You can adjust the quality also which adjusts the size of the file. I can't remember what setting you need to use, but one of them is the same quality as the cds and that is the one I use.

Okay...how do I load MP3s and WMAs I've ripped or downloaded outside iTunes and get them on my iPod touch?

Open windows explorer and itunes, then select all the files you want to transfer and drag them onto itunes is the basic. You might have to delete any files on the ipod before putting the new ones on.

Someone might have more experience with itunes than I - I got them on once and that was long time ago.

Give YamiPod a try. It is an iTunes alternative (free) that you install on your iPod.
