IPOD's FOR CHRISTMAS?

No, and I wouldn't suggest anyone get one.

In my opinion, and from what the reviews show up until now:

The shells on them aren't made well, they will easily break. The screen sratch to easily, and they are by far too expensive for what you get.

I did buy a Creative ZEN Micro a few months ago though, and it's has 6 gigs of space, have a nice interface, it easy to use, and was 30-40% less expensive than an iPod.

Congrats on the gift. Even if it's not my choice, it's a popular item.

I would make a suggestion though, they make a case for it, that will run a few bucks, buy that to protect it. When I was looking and reviewing MP3 players, I went to look at the iPod, and the sales person gave me two hints. One, the suggestion of buying a case and two, buying the extra insurance as he put it "I would need them both"..

That is part of what made me not get it.

Good luck and hope yours is a keeper!

Actually I got a Gift Card for an Apple IPOD Nano and the local stores are all sold out.

It'll be Thursday before they get any in. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Apple Video IPOD 30 GB. Anybody had any experience with these?

Jamie do you have or have you had an Ipod before? If so, have you had a bad experiance with one? f so, I'm sorry you had a bad experiance. If you've never had one......

I've had my 20gig, 4th generation Ipod for almost a year now and it's one of the best investments I've ever made! I've got my entire cd collection (around 120 cds), the whole audio New testament, and a through the bible series of one of my favourite pastors...(around 500 1 - 1 and a half hour long sermons) ....It's been so reliable for me and has become almost as important as my mobile phone....I'm always using it.
I hear many people putting the Ipod down and many of them haven't ever had one and are going on what others have said, or a few bad reviews.
It was yesterday voted the second best electronic item of all time (behind the sony walkman)...can't be bad eh?

</font>[/QUOTE]I have not had one myself. Before I buy things, I borrow my friend's toys. I also have 5-6 co-workers that own them, and have had problems.

I also go online and look at all the review pages, if you look at a collection of them you can get a pretty good idea of how the product will be.

I am not knocking the iPod as being a great invention, and they were the first "main' player on the market, but there are a lot of other players out there now that give more for the money.

It is everyone's opinion of course.

I finally got my 30 Gigabyte 5th Generation Video IPOD last Friday.

I am blown away by the technology and the ease of use. I had never held an Ipod in my hand until I used my gift card to get this one.

Watched my first TV Show on it Sunday Afternoon. It was awesome.

I have not seen anything to compare with this product.

Learning more about my IPOD every day.

What I've done with it so far.

1. Loaded all my music - that's every CD in the house that I can find. Since I'm not a big audiophile that's more than 500 songs but less than 1000.

2. Downloaded sermons from the internet that I want to hear about subjects that I'm interested in from Churches that I never get to visit.

3. Downloaded Commander in Chief TV Series from ABC. My wife and I like to watch this program but don't get good reception at our home of ABC channel. (You don't have to watch the show on the little IPOD screen unless you want to. You can play it on your laptop or your desktop)

4. Loaded the Church's Easter Cantata and use the IPOD for practicing my part in the CANTATA.

5. Use it in the Car through a cassette adapter.

6. Store my Grandpaw bragging pictures on it.

7. Store important address and phone number info on it for when I'm on the road. Works like a PDA sort of except you can't edit things.

All in all it's a pretty nice toy. Especially the video part.

Just finished ripping all our music cds to computer. Have purchased a media wireless unit for our stereo/tv area
We have several hundred cds - been buying them since they first came out.

The amazing item in the story is that we could ALMOST fit our entire library on a 40 gig ipod :D

We have just a hair over 40 gig of music - now all I need to do is set up the media wireless and can listen in my recliner while I
