FC, no one cares what he thinks, because he is an Assyrian Christian. Please note my following comments from a previous thread:

Judging by the conduct of the ruling Shiites in Iran, it is reasonable to expect that Christians will be persecuted and murdered in a Shiite Iraq, just as they are in Iran. The country will be end up being democratic in name only - not a democracy framed and fashioned after the US. It will be a religious Islamic state after the Shiite faction of Islam. And the Christians who are presently living there and fleeing from there know it and can tell what is coming down the pike. You will note, please, as I have pointed out in other threads, that Assyrian Christians were NOT included in the Bush plan for a "democratic" Iraq. They were not allowed to have a voice in the process.

Well, regardless of what anybody thinks, the election process in Iraq is going on this weekend, and so the "democratic" process goes forward. Whether this whole "liberation" of Iraq was the right thing to do or not, it will be up to history to judge, not us. If it is possible to create a semblence of a democracy there, that is a good thing, if it doesn't turn around to bite us. I still fail to see where a true democracy can be created from an Islamic state that will enforce Shariah law. To me, the teachings of Islam and Shariah law are diametrically opposed to a democratic form of government. My fear is that we have exchanged a tyrannical regime for another tyrannical regime. If it ends up being a true democracy, then Christians should be able to live there in peace and the First Baptist Church of Baghdad will not be shut down. There will be freedom of religion in a true democracy. Alas, that is not the case in ANY Islamic state. Just read Voice of the Martyrs for proof. This fact alone could be why so many Iraqi expatriats are not even bothering to vote in these elections - they have no intention of returning to an Islamic State. In the US, I heard only about 10% Iraqis here even bothered to register to vote in this election. One Iraqi Jewish lady who was interviewed said her family left Iraq 50 years ago - long before Saddam came to power - and she said she's not voting because she is an American now.

I had once posted about the Assyrian Christians but it must be in the Archives. You will be stunned at some of the comments on that thread - I know I was. When there is time, will see if it is still around from 2004 or so.

If they did so they might have an epiphany like the one recently visited on Kenneth Joseph. According to UPI, Joseph, a former human shield and pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, was "shocked back to reality" by contact with average Iraqis who spoke to him privately without Saddam's secret police present. He was told "they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill." He has it all on video, so perhaps PBS could edit it down for a Bill Moyers special
