Is anyone familiar with this Bible school?

I would like to join a correspondence Bible school. I have heard about several, but the on ethat stands out the most is the School of Biblical & Theological Studies in Louisiana ( SB & TS )
Does anyone know this institution or has some study experience from there? Please let me know. Thanks for any hints.

I looked in to the school several months ago but found that the quality of classes that they offered were not what I was looking for. A good school to check into is Louisiana Baptist University. www.lbu.edu

My husband attends this school and the information to be studied is very indepth. No easy to do get over with it quick school. You work for you degree. ;)

John, I'd encourage you to "shop around", as there is a huge difference in quality in distance education programs in Bible.

IF you so desire, you could post some class reguirements etc on a thread here and let us compare it to traditional college classes (many here have been years in Christian Education and taught in colleges, et al).

When I was searching for such a program, it opened my eyes to the "sham" that is out there in bogus christian education.

I did "shop around" and finally found Louisiana Baptist. I prayed about it and went into the program there. It was the best around that fit my needs.

I know there are alot of other good programs out there, but I was concerned about the content of some programs that didn't seem right.

Louisianna Baptist is good.

Also Luther Rice in Georgia. They are one of the pioneers in Distance Education, and have a good conservative program.

The Institute of Theological studies has an execllent seminary level courses. They don't offer degrees themselves though, you have to do your admissions through a seminary. Most of the major seminaries use them though (Dallas, Reformed, Covenant, Gorden-Conwell, Westminster). It won't do you a lot of good if your looking for a degree but if your not looking for a degree I think it is the best distance education you can have.

Also, Liberty Univ. is a pioneer much like Luther Rice. They have excellent, fully accredited programs.

A lot depends on if you want an accredited degree or not. If you do, then this one is not the one for you because it is not accredited; not will hardly any other colleges accept credits from it.

As far as the education is concerned-I have no idea. I do know they are not accredited.

Because of Louisiana laws and regulations (or the lack thereof), it has numerous avenues to obtain an advanced degree either online or via distance. None of them are accredited. The "campus" usually consists of a few offices in a strip mall. Diploma mills one and all.

There are legitimate distance programs out there. The ones in Louisiana aren't them.

You condemn such places as "diploma mills". But for people with LOW INCOME it is the ONLY way to get at least some education.
Another issue is that modern American society has made in idol of education. That's why tuiton costs at big universities rise astronomically. I met so many people who brag about their education, their degrees. I have seen churches with Sunday School classes for "college students", but there was no "Blue Collar" class or "common man's class".
The Greeks were the ones that worshiped education and preachers like Stephen or Paul disputed greatly with them. Those educated Greeks would not believe the Gospel because it was foolishness to them. So Christians don't need big campuses that brag on their "Greek life". No. Thank you.
The advantage of an unaccredited degree is that the program can be 100% Bible-based whereas accredited institutions are under the auspices of the state and have to be politically correct. That's why even Jerry Falwell cowtowed before the state and took out some of that Baptist rigor and doctrine in order to get his LU accredited. You can get an accredited degree, but they'll teach you a watered down gospel.

I didn't "condemn" anything. I merely pointed out the FACT that the lack of Louisiana laws and regulations make it a leading state in the nation in its number of "correspondance schools." It isn't limited to religion. You can get all kinds of degrees with little or no real effort from one of several avenues in Louisiana.

There are simply more legitimate means for attaining that coveted unaccredited degree. Luther Rice, Bob Jones, and Trinity (Indiana) all come to mind.

You asked for "hints." I offered some. Apparently, you wanted only confirmation. Sorry I cannot oblige.

You, friend, do however seem to be condemning more traditional modes and models of education. Which begs the question...if education is so bad, why the advanced degree at all? Why even go through the motions? Just make some connections at a Bible College somewhere and have them give you a D.D.

BBC in Springfield is in the candidate status of being accredited. I have been here through the self-study process and two of the team meetings. We have not changed any of the Bible classes; none of the content of them, or took away any Bible classes. We did, however, have to be sure that our professors were from accredited institutions. Some of the professors we had were not.
We have those 'unaccredited' professors come and give testimonies (experiences) for classes that they used to teach.
I would have to say that in some ways, the quality of education is better.
It all depends on what you want to do with your degree once you get it-is it just to be a better servant and church member, or do you want to go into full-time Christian service?
