People love to quote "Judge not lest ye be judged."

    So are Christians to judge?

    Depends.

We are commanded not to judge those outside the church.

We are commanded not to condemn Christians for their understanding.

But we are also commanded to test teachings against the test of the written word (against Scripture) within the Church and to practice holiness - both individually and corporately - within the congregation (expel the wicked man....church discipline).

1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

No. Not because of Scripture. Because I don't want to be an agent of the corruption that goes on today.

Of course we are. Church discipline is a commandment, not a suggestion. How hypocritical is it for a preacher to preach against sin and allow it in the church? The church today is in grave error because it does not judge using righteous judgment.

    No.

Edit: If I had to I would. The principle of "give unto Caesar" applies. Also, the jurors are not judges (their task is to decide which points are proven, not to make moral or spiritual judgments about people).

But my answer is "no" - unless I was required to by law.

We are to judge and use discernment in regards to doctrines and practices, but not in regards to if someone else is really saved or not!

I don't see any differentiation of "...decide which points are proven, not to make moral or spiritual judgments about people." If you decide value points are proven, then you are judging the person thereby accused. And in the scripture references about not judging, "moral or spiritual" is not specified.

And who can cite "don't judge..." without judging?

If I remember correctly, that passage is a warning against judging hypocritically. That is, condemning others while you do the same thing.

By casting that “judgment” you are condemning yourself because you do the same thing.

Discernment may be, imo, one of the most useful gifts God can give us.

    peace to you

It is a simple idea. If it is proven that fire feels hot to the touch, well, that is not really a moral judgment.

But I also do not buy that argument when it comes to serving on a jury. I would decline on religious grounds.

With the World,, Scripture is concerned with judging the moral actions of lost people (they are already assumed to be alienated from Christ...i.e., "dead", spiritually speaking).

Matthew 7:2, "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."
Romans 2:1, "Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. . . ."
John 7:24, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
2 Corinthians 5:10-11, "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; . . ."
1 John 3:20-21, "For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God."

We should not be judging our fellow believers where we may in fact be guilty of the same type sin in our own life. And we should speak out against obvious sin. As beievers we have complete forgivness, Hebrews 10:17. And when we agree with God about our personal sins He promises to give us cleansing per His promise in 1 John 1:7-9.

God gave to man government, and being on a jury is the means to execute that Judgement of His in society!
