    When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    when sorrows like sea billows roll;
    whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
    It is well, it is well with my soul.

    Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
    let this blest assurance control,
    that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
    and hath shed his own blood for my soul.

    My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
    My sin, not in part but the whole,
    is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
    praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

    And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
    the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
    even so, it is well with my soul.

    It is well with my soul,
    It is well, it is well with my soul.

    HORATIO SPAFFORD 1828-88

    My very favourite hymn, without a doubt, especially:

    Ah, C4K, I can see you're a "3rd verse" man, too! There's a lot of good "verse 3's" in hymns, aren't there!

    I love the 6th verse of Crown Him with Many Crowns

    Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side,
    Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
    No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
    But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

    This is one of my "top 3." The other two are "The Old Rugged Cross" and Because He Lives."

    "I'd Rather Have Jesus" is one of my favorites!

    "Living in Caananland" and "Looking for a City" get me going.

    "The Old Rugged Cross" is near and dear (walked the aisle to meet my Lord on that one), as is "Take My Hand, Precious Lord".

    But, then, I could name half of the 'red-back'!

    In Christ,

    It's a great hymn and v.3 is mandatory!

    We sing all verses of a hymn and sing a capella.

    Yep, This is about where I get the chills when singing this song. Hard to imagine being able to sing this song, let alone write it, if I had gone through the trial that H.G. Spafford did.

    That is my favorite verse, and yes, it is well with my soul.

    Of course, this isn't too shabby either. Its probably my second favourite stanza of a hymn. See above for my first favourite.

    Many hymnals omit precious verses:

    When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
    Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
    It is well, it is well, with my soul.

    Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
    Let this blest assurance control,
    That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
    And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

    My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
    My sin, not in part but the whole,
    Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

    For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
    If Jordan above me shall roll,
    No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
    Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

    But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
    The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
    Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
    Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

    And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
    The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
    Even so, it is well with my soul.
