I've been accused here of having a "weak" and "impotent" God. Well, God is love, the Bible says, and I believe it is the essence and core of His being. Jesus (God the Son) even told us that we are to even love our enemies so that we can "be like our Father in Heaven". Just how powerful is "love".

    Song of Solomon 8:7
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

that sounds an awful lot like this verse.....
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Yes, the Bible says that we cannot work for salvation, and all of the possessions in the world could not pay for it. it would utterly be contemned. And this Mighty Being who made this incredibly vast Universe, fills it with His presence, and fills eternity with His presence. Yet some people insist that this Someone so vast and so powerful and wonderful beyond imagination......has limited love? Wow! That is astounding to me.

    1 Corinthians 13

1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

People who are evil inclined only understand fear as a god and are quick to call any evil done good.

Might makes right and it only matters who has a gun to your soul's head.

God is not weak, SW, but they way you paint Him, He can no nothing without first gaining ppl's permission. That's not the God of the bible. Not even close.

When discussing the love of God, it is important to remember that "God is love," but love is not God. Also, remember that God is a multi-faceted being and love is not His only attribute. In addition to love, God also has wrath, jealousy, etc. Like a diamond is multi-faceted, so is God's character. His love (which may be the biggest facet) does not exist without the other facets of His character.

We see this in the Gospel: God's love is seen in the cross. Christ lives a life of perfect obedience on our behalf and dies the death we should have died, bearing God's just and righteous wrath against sin. God is both "Just and Justifier." Love is not the only facet of His character in view here. His love, His justice, His wrath, etc. all meet at the cross.
