Yellowstone straddles Wyoming, Idaho & Montana. Then there is the tour of the Unabomer's cabin. ;)

I love Montana! Other than Alaska, it's probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.

Only 1% of Yellowstone is in Montana, but they claim it because it's the best thing in the state since they were forced to institute a speed limit!

Seriously, Glacier Natl Park is fabulous. And the Bitterroot Range in the west is imposingly beautiful. Little Bighorn Battlefield is worth a visit.

Now, Saggy, IF you have to go to Montana, be sure to go through WYOMING to get there!

Wyoming has an interesting road from Casper. Rte 20 out of Casper goes thru Wind River Canyon, which is beautiful, without even getting out of the car, but you will want to. Keep on that road to Cody, Carson City, & the entrance to Yellowstone. ($20, I think, & the road is closed in Winter), out via Mammoth Hot Sprongs, into Gardiner, Montana. A great drive.

I've driven that route a couple of times, most recently last August. Unfortunately both times were on my return trip from Yellowstone and Montana, so I had little time to stop and enjoy it, having exceeded my time budget. Gardiner is a nice little town just outside the north gate of Yellowstone, but in summer motels will probably be near full-up and about $85 for a room comparable to $50 or less in most tiny towns off the highways. And Cody has a rodeo every night June thru August, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center; 5 museums in one spot, of guns, western and Indian artifacts, and natural history exhibits.
