Is My Motivation for Drinking Beer Wrong?

From one of the 28 other drinking threads:

My wife snores like a banshee. I slap the mattress, poke her, push her to get her to change her sleeping position. She will roll over and within 2 minutes start snoring again. Most nights I don't get to sleep until past 1:00 am even though lights go off around 11:00 pm. Funny thing though, when I drink a beer or two on Friday night or Saturday night I don't have a problem getting to sleep.

So am I wrong or sinning by drinking a couple of beers so I can get some much needed sleep?

If it will ease your conscious have your doctor prescribe you Xanax. It is dirt cheap and will accomplish the same result.

As a side benefit, there is a better than zero chance that half the ladies in your church take it for anxiety. They wouldn't think anything of it if they heard about your sleep remedy.

My conscience is doing fine. So I should have an office visit with my doctor for $150.00, so I can get a prescription for Xanax for $4.00? Take an unnatural chemical rather than drink a natural product. Don't think so.

Last time I checked, there were no creeks, streams, rivers or oceans that ran beer. Nor have I seen gardens that grow beer.

Beer is not a natural product. It is brewed by man.

Fair enough. It's made by man out of natural products made by God.

Now, care to address the topic of the OP?

Why don't you just sleep in another room?

I've done that. The only place available is the couch in the family room. I'm 6' 3" and I barely fit on it. It's not quality sleep. I wake up with sore ankles. I can't sleep for long in a recliner, so that's not an option.

I am not offering approval, but I say you are just fine. There are things in life to be enjoyed, beer for some may be one of them. One should use wisdom and discretion in its use. Best beer I ever enjoyed was in the "gravity bar" at the top of the Guiness Brewery in Dublin. BTW, you might suggest that your wife get assessed for Sleep Apnea, I did and now use a CPAP machine, no longer snore. Takes a little "getting used to" sleeping with the apparatus, but sleep much better and I no longer have bruised ribs from my wife poking me during the night.

Or you could just use earplugs.

My wife snores like a 737. But the only time it bothers me is when we are asleep and I happen to throw my arm over her chest and the vibrations shake me awake. Deafness has it's advantages!

Put her in there on the couch.

I'm going on sixty and generally make to 4:30 - 5:30 every morning, which is when I get up to stay up.

I was born at night but twern't last night, if I drank two beers before going to bed I'd have to get up and go pee in 2-3 hrs. :)

Yes. And there are none that flow with Diet Coke either.

OP: There is nothing wrong with having a couple of beers and getting a good nights sleep.

It seems that to some to put this same effect into the form of a pill it is then 'biblically approved'.

Hardy har har har. So far, thank the Lord, a full bladder makes my lil' eyes pop open instead of wetting the bed. :)
