In another thread I asked if folks would fellowship ecclesiastically with several well-known evangelicals. Given the recents events that brought Evangelicals and Mormons together (for a report posted on Ravi Zacharias' website, follow this <LINK>), I was wondering if the folks who "fellowship with those who hold to the fundamentals" would have any problems now fellowshiping with Ravi Zacharias? Has Zacharias' lack of separation crossed a line for any of you?

I asked this in another thread but thought I'd get more response over here in the Fundamental Baptist Forum.

Lack of separation? Did he compromise on doctrine or something?

It sounds as if he effectively delivered the gospel to a large group of Mormons and that their leaders weren't overly happy about it.

I wouldn't say that Ravi violated separation principles any more than Paul did.

Oh and to answer the question of the thread, I haven't seen any teaching espoused by RZIM that would disclude them from being fundamentalist by the historic definition.

I listen to him fairly often and appreciate his work.

I must agree with ScottJ here. It looks to me like an attempt to share the Gospel with people in Mormon circles. I've watched and heard Ravi Zacharias personally, and his message is straight from scripture. I've also seen Richard Mouw (another attendee with RZ), and his messages have likewise been in line with scripture.

I, too, enjoy his lessons, and quite often find myself of like mind with him.

According to the RZIM website, they were worshiping together!

The Bible says, "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them." (Eph. 5:11, ESV)

From another portion of the RZIM website:
How is that exposing the false doctrine of Mormomism? How is that effectively delivering the gospel?

They gave him a standing ovation after he was done. He was with another evangelical who apologoized that evangelicals "have often misrepresented the faith and beliefs of the Latter-day Saints."

Mormons worship a false Christ. My impression from all that I have read is that evangelicals speaking at this event did not do anything to warn or correct false LDS doctrine. In fact they did just the opposite -- they pretended to worship the same God together.

Cooperating - not just speaking at a meeting where mormons were present - but with a public love-fest that was based on APOLOGIZING to the LDS cult, is not a mark of any militant or even moderate fundamentalist I know.

Even evangelicals should be ashamed of that action.

Just so everyone knows what is at stake (little Mormon pun there for those in the know), we have BB member Corrine posting on the other thread (http://www.baptistboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/2563.html) that Mormons are Christians because they believe in the deity of Christ. She goes on to state several Mormon beliefs:

Anyone who knows Mormon doctrine knows how deceitful these statements are. Mormons want evangelicals to believe they are Christians, just like all the other evangelical denominations. If Zacharias would have delivered a clear, unambigious confrontation of Mormon heresy concerning Christ, he would not have been applauded. As it was, he gave those lost Mormons in attendance the idea that, yes, they are worshiping the same Christ just like other Christian groups do. And he is giving weak evangelicals the same idea about Mormons -- that they are Christians just like us. That is a sell out of the gospel.

They (the CJCLDS) want to use the same vocabulary but use a different dictionary.

Ravi Zacharias is a well known preacher, speaker and apologist. He has written several books responding to other faiths.

Please go to this link which lists the remarks of several people about Ravi's talk at the LDS Temple.

Some were very disturbed by Fuller Seminary's President Richard Mouw's remarks. I agree with that view -- Mouw apolgized to Mormons for evangelicals mischaracterizing the Mormon beliefs and he talked about how Chritians should participate in celebrating Joseph Smith's life. He also talked as though the Mormons and Christians have the same Jesus.

Some thought Ravi did a good job and others thought he did not clarify the different between the Mormon Jesus and the Biblical Jesus. This page gives a lot of info. I just finished reading it. So read this before coming to conclusions as it gives some good info.

Sometimes go to Rauni's website at www.hismin.com

You won't agree with any part of Mormonism after you read that,

I know first hand from pastoring an SBC church in AZ about the compromise I see among so many Christians and how they even ridicule those who are trying to win Mormons to Christ.

I've met Rauni! She's a wonderful servant of the Lord tyring to reach Mormons. She used to be a Mormon.

Many of her comments are also on the link I gave in the above post.

It does seem that we are in a time when many Christians do not want to offend anybody or for some reason believe that saying some beliefs are wrong is "judging" and we can't do it. I am getting that on the BB myself when I talk about things like the Word Faith teachers.

Sorry, but I also have several things to say about Mormonism.

First, it's spelled incorrectly, with an extra "m" in the middle.

Second, they've invented their own christ.

Third, there's nothing to celebrate about false prophet Joey Smith's life except that it's over.

Fourth, it's a cult, an evil caricature of Christianity. We should have nothing to do with this gang except to witness to them.

Obviously, you are not talking about the same historic Fundamentalism. A belief in the fundamentals and Fundamentalism are not necessarily synonymous. Just how do you define a Fundamentalist?
