The powers that be in the US Government/Corporate sector are so busy entangling us overseas, while neglecting our borders and domestic matters, that the general population/USA will end up being a third world nation in due time while those in power retain and amass more wealth from the "global" economy. The only people in denial are the masses. We will never win the so-called "war on terror." It is already too late.

Al Qaeda doesn't have to thank me. They can thank our elected officials who have let them come into our country in droves by not enforcing our immigration laws and protecting our borders. It is the US Government they will thank and the ACLU and others who are against profiling, as they carry out the next jihad attacks against the homeland. And don't think they don't already have them in the jihad pipeline.

 

LE, you are right about the border issue. We have neglected our southern border for too long.We need troops to be their at hand to support our border patrol. The border patrol is already out gunned at the border . If the Mexican government were to turn on us they could do a lot of death and destruction before we would turn them back. As it stands now it is like a slow death to American sovereignty. The British Empire failed at Nation building in the 1920's with the Arab region.
To me the most important priority is to seal and protect our southern borders.

We will win the battle, but will we win the war? The real war is within us, and we are loosing big time. If we don't change we will be defeated from within, just a Kruschev predicted.

I agree that we are losing the battle on the homefront. But, I don't think it is because our troops are overseas. I think it is because Bush and the entire government is playing politics with the battle for the border. In the short run, however, although I agree the likelihood is that we will be attacked again by terrorists crossing our unprotected borders, I disagree that this is the end of the war, as this will raise the ire of the public en masse, and they will demand something be done about it...especially if it is a spectacular attack as we saw on 9-11. I hope and pray that we will awaken to the reality of the threat before then and that we won't have to see this happen.

While I disagree with the title of that piece, I do agree with it's main point. The US government is spending too much money and is spending it unwisely.

 

For all the border freaks (nothing negative intended), why don't we have a great illegal problem from Canada?

The answer is economy. Canada's economy is good, so there is no burning desire to come here from there. The border with Canada is longer, and easier to breach, but there are less problems.

Lesson: The "globalization" of the economy that has equalized Canada and the US has prevented a Canadian illegal problem. If we pursued a "globalization" policy with Mexico to make Mexico similar to Canada, the problem of illegals would greatly reduce.

People come to the US because of freedom and opportunity. If they have freedom and opportunity in their own countries, they will more likely stay home.

Think folks ... Don't just keep repeating the nonsense.

 

OK Larry, on that level the golbalization effort is reasonable, but the issue of greater importance is the ability of terrorists to infiltrate unencumbered, and either border is very penetrable.

 

The issue of illegals is very rarely connected with terrorism, especially until just recently. I imagine if you looked through this forum for all the posts on immigration, the biggest issue is not terrorism.

 

I think our country has tried on several occasions to prop up the
Mexican economy.American industries have relocated manufacturin facilities in Mexico. The problem is that Mexico will do nothing to curb crime and corruption.Violent criminals come and go across our borders at will and it makes quite easy for any terrorist to come across via Mexico to the U.S. to do their business.
Over 300 female bodies have been dumped in the desert just outside of Ciudad Juarez and only a few handful have been arrested for these crimes, it is a national disgrace IMHO.
I apologize for going off topic to a degree but protecting our borders is imperative to maintaining our American sovereignty.

 

I agree that protecting our borders is necessary. We all agree. But the point is how best to do that?

 

While I agree that infiltration by nationals is the publics biggest concern, I submit the terrorist risk issue should be of greater concern.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out terrorists have been and continue to infiltrate our country through porous borders. Our borders should have been closed on 09/12/2001 until we found out just who was in our country and what they were doing here. I've always said that.
