From a thread on the Music Forum this interesting question was asked? Implication was that our music, as part of worship, IS feeling based.

    Thoughts?

I made that remark. Yes,I believe we can feel good when worshipping, but should that be the empahsis...isn't that making worship for man and the motivation behind it for us to feel good?? What about God and His holiness? I should feel lowly when I sing truths about God,knowing I am unworthy of Him...but,joy,also,knowing that he loves me anyway. There is a fine line there, though. The purpose should be to worship in spirit and truth, not I sure could jive with the music today. Where does that fit???

There were a lot of people feeling good here in a church in Edmonton. People were very emotional. They could hardly wait: "We thank God for creating you and giving you into a good home," and the Catholic priest blessed the dog (or other animal). There will be a special interdenominational service on Monday for those of "Christian," Jewish, and Sikh faiths to have their pets blessed by their minister. This really is an emotional event. Is their emotion in worship??

We cannot separate our emotion from our intellect. They are integrally linked. In this sense, both emotion and intellect have a place in worship.

It is when we allow one to overtake the other we might find ourselves in some difficulty when it comes to deliverance. For example, we hear the term "easy believism" all the time. I should be happy when a person makes a simple confession and then seeks more information. This is when someone may be actually pointed in the right direction.

In preaching we use emotions to garner full attention of the audience. Once we have full attention, we may capture the intellect in order to gain the soul. By all means that we may reach one.

My theology would be nothing but noise without emotion; I feel what I believe.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Jim thank you for your post. You have a way of saying exactly what I want to, but I don't know how to express it as eloquently as you do.

    Keeping Posting, My Friend.

BettyE - Amen! Jim does have the talent to state simply and beautifully what so many of us are thinking. I agree wholeheartedly.

As for me, to add my thoughts on this, I have attended churches where worship was not "felt" in even the smallest degree. May God save me from such places, for they were cold and uncaring about anyone but themselves. I will never again intentionally attend such a church. If there is no feeling in the worship of our Lord - there is no worship in my opinion.

I don't see how you can seperate emotion from worship when you worship a God you love.

Without emotion? Is love an emotion? Yes

    1 Cor 13:13
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Worship, even in song, without emotions is a compeltely foreign idea to me.

    In Christ
