New Life? Or Just a New Leaf?
Some commentaries are surprisingly sparse in unpacking what I would see as unmistakable New Testament application, placing – in some cases almost restricting – the “good news” verses here to the times of the Restoration.
But if the Lord, teaching the two disciples on the road to Emmaus “beginning at Moses and all the prophets … expounded unto them all the things concerning Himself”, Luke 24:27, then surely those who take on the exposition of these closing chapters of Isaiah should go and do likewise. The connections, many of them at least, await us right on the surface.
