"Citizens of Israel, there are moments in the life of a nation, when it is compelled to look directly into the face of reality and say: no more...And I say to everyone: no more. Israel will not be held hostage - not by terror gangs or by a terrorist authority or by any sovereign state" -Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (Israel).

Israel must not stop until Hezbollah and Hamas are either defanged or wiped off the face of the earth.

Give Ken a week or two and he'll join France in calling for restraint.

 Maybe not. I still have hope for Ken. He's being a real trooper through this ME crisis. :flower: Besides, his dog avatar is beautiful and looks like Lassie. :)

It's real simple. I was quite willing to see negotiations given a chance. Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon. Israel withdrew from Gaza. Hezbollah and Hamas had a perfect opportunity to lay down their arms and accept the offer of the establishment of an independent state for the Palestinians.

And what did they do? They rejected the goodwill of the Israeli government and continued their armed conflict.

There is no way that a clear thinking person can even contemplate giving these people another such opportunity. These two organizations must now be destroyed and if Syria or Iran intervene on their behalf, then those governments will have to go the way of Saddam Hussein's regime.

Newt is right. It's time to take off the kid gloves. We've been more than patient and it's time for that patience to come to an end.

Don't think that this causes me to like President Bush any better or think any better about being misled about WMDs in Iraq. But I am not going to continue to allow my feelings about President Bush to interfere with advocating what is in the security interests of my country.

As a team will warn its players during the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs: "Don't allow your individual battle to interfere with our war."

I am curious to know if you can articulate how this war is in the national security interests of your country. I know why it is, but am curious if you can bring yourself to actually articulate that wonderful neocon doctrine that how a government treats its own people or neighboring nations is a good indication of how they will act toward you. Careful, Ken. You are teetering dangerously close to the neocon dream of pre-emption by proxy and agreeing with Sharansky and I on foreign policy. What would your CFR friends and Sobran think?

It is now clear that Hamas and Hezbollah are composed of Islamofascists. They may provide social services but their rejection of a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian problem proves who they really are.

Al Qaeda is composed of Islamofascists. If Hamas and Hezbollah succeed in defeating Israel, then they will turn that part of the world into a huge training ground for al Qaeda.

Don' worry, there are a plethora of viewpoints among CFR analysts.

And Newt Gingrich is not a neocon. I find his statements more to the point of how I view this situation than those of Bill Crystal, one of the chief(if not the chief) neocon.

That fact has always been clear to me ever since I researched after 09/11 and read their agenda from their own web sites and that of those who support them.

    Ken,

Is this really a major revelation for you that Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorists? Are you telling me that you really didn't know that before? Are you serious? It is beyond me how anyone who has even remotely paid a bit of attention to what is going on in the world didn't figure this out a long time ago. What did you think Hamas and Hezbollah were...the Palestinian and Lebanese version of the Boy Scouts?

I'm glad Ken has finally realized the truth. BTW, there are al Qaeda groups in Lebanon, as well.

Here's what I think is pretty sad. We have major powers in the West, US, UK, France, Italy, to name a few, desperately trying to get their citizens out of Lebanon - all dancing like puppets on a string because of a failure to squash Hezbollah, Hamas, and al Qaeda. Groups of islamofascists are controlling the world powers, even so far as starting the chaos to change the agenda of the G8 summit. Remarkable.

And for all of the Hezbollah/innocent Lebanese sympathizers...let us not forget that it was Hezbollah that bombed the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 and caused the death of 300 American Marines. We should have squashed them like a bug back then before they had time to mutate, regenerate, and acquire more followers and weapons.

No. I was interested to see after Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon and from Gaza if these two organizations would lay down their arms and join the process for a political settlement to the Palestinian problem.

We now see their answer to Israel's good faith effort.

    Ken,

I am trying not to be too hard on you, but did you really think that Israel would be able to negotiate with terrorists whose stated mission is to destroy Israel? This is the major problem I see with Bush, Condi, and other foreign policy "experts" in that they really thought this would work. They really seem clueless on this...but it is not just them. Most American Presidents have been. They fail to understand the seriousness of their fanaticism and think that just because they get more power and land that they will somehow magically change.

The world can now see that Israel made every attempt to peacefully resolve things, to no avail.

The terrorists made a huge mistake.

if their fangs are mainly idealogical rather than ballistic, wld the best way to disarm n destroy them be to:

    1. withdraw fr West Bank n grant them Statehood n

    2. bomb their strongholds with surplus wheat n gospel tracts written in Arabic?
what kind of comeback cld they possibly think of?
