Israel warns: free soldier or PM dies

The Palestinians seem to be masters of doing it the wrong way. If there are prisoners in Israel who they think should be freed there are correct ways of working towards that goal. Kidnapping civilians (killing one) and a soilder will accomplish for them nothing good. The whole thing has backfired on the Palestinians and yet they refuse to just give it up. It looks to me that they would know that terror does not profit, nor does it work...O well. I feel sorry for the average Palestinian and Israeli. They are stuck in the middle of that mess :tear: .

Look at how the mainstream media gives those poor, misunderstood Palestinians victim status against those nasty, evil Jews.

You have hit the nail on the head. If Israel so much as lays a hand on a Palistinian shooting at them, the UN hears about it and a string of suicide bombings usually accompany it.

Israel is all alone, pushed up against an ocean and is defending its homeland. The Arabs have made it very clear that they will push Israel into the ocean if they ever get the chance.

Israel HAS to take a no-tolerance stance in regards to kidnappings and other situations. By doing so, then there can be no negotiation like the Arabs try to do. I'm certainly not saying this is a bad thing. It lets the world know that Israel will not make trades when they are stepped on first.

I admire Israel for not striking back during the first gulf war. We asked them not to and they took our word that we would take out all of the Scud launchers. We kept our word and Israel kept their word. As far as I know this is the first time major strikes were made on the mainland of Israel without retaliation. But, by being patient they got to see Saddam fall.

And now the Palestinians threaten to worsen their own situation even more, if that were possible. The Palestinians have now threatened Israeli schoolchildren...

"If they continue with these attacks, we will strike at targets in Zionist territory that we have not struck until now" -Hamas spokesman.

The Jerusalem Post reports that...

"Hamas's armed wing, Izaddin al-Kassam, on Sunday threatened to attack infrastructure facilities inside Israel, including schools, hospitals and universities."

These people never cease to amaze me. They create the current crisis by kidnapping an Israeli soilder (the reason is not important) and at least one civilian (who they murdered) and turn around and blame Israel. I can't understand such logic.

While I am not going to defend everything Israel does, the behavior displayed by the Palestinian leadership is weird. Why don't they seek ways to solve their own problems instead of trying to find ways to create further problems for themselves (and Israel)?

Israel is not caving in to the Hamas ultimatum. It could be that Israel has had enough and I certainly hope our president doesn't interfere with Israel and whatever they decide to do. Hopefully now, President Bush can see what a disaster his (and the Quartet's) Road Map from Hell has been.

A war with Israel is a war they can't win and therefore they need to return the soilder and work with Israel to stop the violence. Then they need to take a long, hard look inward and see what changes they need to make to better their own situation. They need to stop blaming everyone else for their problems and start taking responsibility for their own actions and situation. Once they have done that they will be ready to talk with Israel about prisoner release (etc).

 

It looks like Israel is gearing up for war. It's about time to put an end to this and the harrassment and homicide bombings, etc., once and for all.

I think that the US can do nothing but make public statements condemning excessive force.

 

The US threatened to withhold foreign aid from Israel (like loan guarantees) if Israel did not go along with the Quartet's (UN, US, Russia, EU) Road Map to give the Palestinians "land for peace" and Jerusalem as the new Palestinian capital. Sharon had his back to the wall from US pressure and thus sold the bill of goods to the Israeli people. It was a Bush/US threat, which I don't think could have been carried off without the approval of Congress, but Sharon bought the threat.

This time, I hope Israel tells the US to take a hike. There are enough Jews and Christians who love Israel in this country who would gladly support Israel even financially through private funds should the Official Policy cut them off.

 

What I meant was that I don't think the US would have the political ability to cut off funds. The last thing some American politician wants to do is to make himself look like he's supporting Hamas. It is an election year, of course.

 

==Israel has made a massive mistake by listening to the advice given by the United States. Politically correct advice will never solve the terrorism problem Israel faces. Btw...The United Nations is anti-Israel so Israel should not listen to them either. Israel should do what is best in its national security interest.

 

I think that with Iran and North Korea we are facing a situation in which the world at large really doesn't care all that much about Israel/Palestine. Sure, it's a big issue when nothing else is happening, but I think North Korea has given plenty of other issues with which to deal.
